i've been blasting my zoos under 10k, actinics and 14k lightings HO T5.

Over some time, with constant water parameters other than the dropping of kH, my orange centred zoos became dull in orange and some polyps have even turned brown.. is my lighting too weak?? the green neon zoos beside it did not even change a bit and continnued to grow evenly. Can anyone help??

Is it my lighting or i haven't been feeding them?

currently im running 20k w actinics in hope to bring their colors back again..

I used to have this colony of orange centered zoos when I had it under 150w MH

Then when I changed to 250w MH, this colony actually changed to a nice baby blue with pink mouth!!! :P

Maybe your lights are not bright enough?

I think the dulling might be due to an increase in zooxathellae

For me, a rule I follow is the more colours a colony of zoos have, the brighter the light needed to sustain the colours

Agree in this point....as for red and pink, i found that they require less light.....

Basically I think it is sort of a balance.

With low lights, the zoox population increases as there is more demand for photosynthetic activity.

With high lights, zoox population decrease as the rate of photosynthesis reaches a saturation point and anything above that will lead to a shutting down of the zoox

There is no possible way to know the best lighting level so I think experimenting on various light levels might be the only solution.

as according to one of the reefer, he said there could be the case of insufficient lights.

so i tot of increasing my amt of lights to 2 x actinics 4x20k.

will increased amt of doc cos increased zooxantallae?

i dont know how many zoos keeps know but zoo dont need alot of light which most ppl should know since they rated one of the easiest corals to keep but the catch to low light for these corals is that they gotta be feed as lighting even with 400 will not help my tanks all are feed with brine shrimp and since i only got a few fish alot is missed so they usally flow into the corals but i noticed the one that dont get feed alot usally go dull or .. even die so now i been target feeding them i be doing the same in my propgation systems

there an post in RC about this somewhere in the zoos forums =) if u wish to check on this info
