Freshwater Drip

A little experience to share...Yesterday, saw two of my clown kana a few white spot and a tiny whitish patch on them.. Decided to use the fresh water drip method...cause i lost one clown when the same thing happen.(I failed to do anything to it.)

Daredevil style... net the fish one by one, then drip them with aged FW in a small transparent betta. Drip for about 5-10min. Fish looks normal, through a bit struggling... Then i put them back into the tank.. and the spots and patch were visibly gone.. The fish through look a bit stress when put back into the tank.. Both had survive the drip and had already start eating again..

I personally feel that the FW drip is quite effective in eliminating the visible white spot on the fish in the initial stage.. (through the method is not foolproof cause i know the parasite is still not eliminated from my main tank).

However, i feel that this had better be done when the fish is still strong, if it is at a later stage, i seriously believe the FW drip will kill the fish instantly..

Will continue to monitor them...

I think a combination of both fresh water dip and Hypo is the best for parasite. It will probably has the best lead time for fishes in QT.

I guess I will administrate both to improve the treatment for new fishes.

Most of us tends to forget about the fresh water PH.

Normal marine water PH is about 8-8.2 compare to fresh water straight from the tap is about 6.5-7 i think.

Defenitely will give more shock to LS not just fresh water shock but also PH shock!

Always remember to bring up the PH of the FW up to at least 8 .Chances of the LS survival is much better.

The freshwater dip session lasted for 5 to 10 minutes? Wow! When I dip my newly-acquired fish into freshwater, they appear to be concussed and lie flat within 30 seconds. I got worried and dump them into the main tank after 1 minute.

You leave them inside for 5 minutes? Won't they die of shock?

Ya.. really is 5 mins at least.. Mine never belly up.. Just dashing around the betta box.. And the other thing is that i just used aged fresh water without any PH buffer.(I have a bucket full of aged water for topping up). Both still healthy and eating till now. No sign of recurrence yet and i on my UV 24/7. (Maybe just lucky that the dip works)

Yesterday night, tried it on another very sick clown in my hospital tank. (Same problem but worst, full of whitish film) I believe this is the clown that started it one week ago. I dose "cure ich" for the past week. Not feeding and getting thinner everyday.. Decided to dip it.... this one turn belly up in less than 30sec.. put it back to HT.. This morning dip again... Surprisingly, during their dinner time, it actually responsed to feeding liao...... Will monitor this guy again...

I am not saying this method is the best.. but it sure works for me at the moment....

Hi pop! Can you read this thread that I posted in this forum? It's regarding some kind of ich, and I wonder if it is the same as yours. Thanks.

cci[RR]us:

I think its almost the same as yours..but only one is badly affected (the one in my hospital tank). The other two clown is just mild.. I treated the affected one with the same medication also for one week. All the slime came off after one week..follow by dip.

Prior to the FW dip, all the three clowns are still healthy and eating, without any recurrence yet.. will release the last clown into the main tank soon.

I strongly believe what the rest of the guys had said.. new fishes do not have strong immune system. That is why new fishes died off rather easily after contacting disease. My three clown was my "pioneer batch" of fishes. maybe, thats why they manage to fight the disease.
