Achilles tangs are considered as one of the more difficult to keep fishes

If you want to ensure that your tang is healthy, here's a few pointers for you:

1) Give it lot's of swimming space (at least 4ft length)

2) Make sure it eats

3) Enrich it's food with garlic or get commercial pellets food that includes garlic

4) Quarantine the fish and acclimatise it carefully

5) Have good flow in your tank

Hope this helps

Try getting those food supplements that entice the fish to eat

And maybe you can try different types of food such as cabbage, nori, etc

How did you manage to buy boss? Wow!

petchong, pls refrain from buying a fish if you do not know how to care for it in the first place.

Its like saying, ok, I will adopt this baby.

Then when you go back, you realise you do not know how to change diapers and make milk.

I know it is an exaggeration, but tell me whats the difference?

Baby got life, then do not tell me the fish also do not have a life.

Think about it. <_<

try different kinds of food if its still nt eating

dried seaweed , pellet food , frozen food , henry's mix

some fish are very picky eaters , i got a naso tang which only eats cheato

but now i manage to wean him to eat dried seaweed den slowly to pellet.

it takes some time for the fish to try out the new food .

bro mUAr cHEe and jem, Dont really agree with both of u. If being 100% responsible, shouldn't be having this hobby. If I dont wrong, from fishes or coral to be collect from the sea to our lfs, the dying rates is quite high so being 100% responsible u should not be buying any thing at all. BTW i have keep some hard to rear fishes and have success in them. Posting here is just to see if anyone have any good way to keep the fish so that I can look into it. No offences, just my point of view.

Try going back to the LFS where u purchased the fish from. Maybe they have been feeding the AT with their particular kind of food before selling to u?

BTW, can reveal where u got it from? :D

:thanks:

No offense taken. Respect your point of view. Its your money when you buy the fish. Not mine. Not my problem if you want it to be blatently put.

We shall move on.

As I said, my experience is that it ate turtle weed. I got 3 ATs.

the first one is a stupid newbie mistake. Cost me almost 300 bucks. Like how i put it, do not know how to care for the fish, then buy it, and let it die in my tank. That is where i learn my lesson. That is why I am trying to preach this fact to everyone here.

the second one was after 3 months of intensive research. This one is downright unlucky. put in tank, hide in rocks, it won't come out until it died, and I took it out of the tank.

After 6 months of getting over, the last one i got, was fine. It was with me for quite some time. Took me a while (no stock for quite some time) , and alot of petrol (i live in the east, ML is the damn west part of singapore) to get Henry Mix. It finally ate Henry's mix after one week's of paitence. But it ended when my tank crashed.

You should really try Henry's mix or blend. It is damn good. So good that you almost want to eat it yourself. Mmmm... :eyebrow:

I don't agree with your statement bro

As reefers, it is our duty to make sure that we take good care of every fish we purchase, be it a $1 chromis or a $300 AT.

Do take note of what we mention as "hard to keep" as these guys really need proper and even individual care.

When you buy your AT, be sure to make sure that it eats and provide that kind of food for it. IMO, all the red bamboo or red grape does not provide enough nutrition for it and might even be toxic in the case of caulerpa.

It is not right to say that we are not being responsible because we buy from an LFS as long as we know we are capable of keeping that fish.

But in retrospect, it is a irresponsible act to buy a fish from an LFS without knowing it's level of difficulty.

Hope you do not get offended by my reply but just that I hope that you take note of this on your next purchase.

Good luck on your AT ;)

Hmm I wasn't mentioning about bro petchong there (I'm sorry if it seemed that I did)

Just stating in my view, what is considered responsible and irresponsible

Well just before we get out of topic, bro petchong asked for suggestions to keep this fish and I had posted some suggestions.

The reason why we started the topic on compulsive buying of fish is just that probably by the way bro petchong asked the question, it may seem something like this: "I bought this fish. Now tell me how to care for it." ;)

And of course, the fact that petchong had quarantined his new fish is an effort which is applaudable

And one more suggestion for petchong, I've noticed tangs like strong water flow.

It prevents them from swimming back and forth in the tank :D

Firstly, a big thank you to all that post in this thread.

Let me explained myself that I DID NOT buy the fish in compulsive. I did done alot of research in the past few months. As I say, I just like to find out anyone have any special way to keep this fish that I can learn. Anyway, I WILL DO all I can for the AT and not just this fish and also all my fish I have in my tank. So let stop this responsible or not issue. Sorry to those who feel offenced qver my post about being responsible or not.

Lastly the AT has started to feed on some live brine shrimp and Ocean Nutrition Marine pellet formula 2 soaked with Seachem garlic guard. :thanks:
