Clam Questions

i just bought a purple coloured 4 1/2 inch clam and I would like to know where to place it. Do i put it on the sand bed or on my life rocks nearer to the surface? Must I position it to face the current or can I place it the way I fancy? I understand that small clams need to be fed with phytoplankton and bigger clams only need strong lighting. So is my 4 1/2 inch clam a big clam or a small clam?

To put where depends on wat lighting u got....

If using Mh? Must it be at the top? What kind of current it need. I'm also having a purple crocea clam (palm size) and place it on the sandbed(medium current). It's attached onto a limestone so it's hard to put it anywhere. I feed it with phyto. Is it alright?

a 4.5 inch clam will need stromg lighting liao,

dosing phyto will help but nominally as they will rely more

on the zooxanthellae in them to produce food already.

if you're using MH, it should be enough,

try placing it wher there is light, if the clam is not happy,

it'll tell you.....

huh? How obvious are their movements? Do they like wiggle around?

many signs are indictative of unhappy clams

-mantle not fully open

-they keep forcefully expelling water to shify into better position

-worse case, they detach from their perch....

ine was happy for a few months at a corner,

then i added actinic lighting very close to it...

next day it opened less....

next next day, it was at the sand bed...

i placed it at another place, and it reattached
