ok here's my lil review on my lil xmas gift to myself, which just arrived in my mail. Bought it from reefdepot, and my tanks to the nice staff there that provided prompt customer service.

I've not set it up yet so i'll be back here to update on it performance. I've seen it running on a fellow reefer's tank and i ust say i was raelly impressed by how precise it kept the water lvl at.

so here's a breakdown of the items you'll get in the box

1) power adapter

2) Controller

3) a optical sensor

4) a float switch with extensions

5) pump and some hosing

item no 3 is why you'll have to part with $245 for a top up water system. It uses the optical sensor which will detect the slightest change in the water lvl in ur sump, and delivering a appropriate amount of water from ur storage into the sump.

here's a close up on the optical sensor.

the other float switch is placed slightly higher than the optical sensor. Its primary function is to cut of the feeding pump in the event of any mulfunction, thus preventing a major flood, or in my case, another major flood in my room.

basically its fullproof with a nice detail on precautionary measures which makes a good first impression.

thats all for now, will update when i set it up...prolly over the weekend.

hi,

I used this an it is really great stuff! Just wish the adapter is smaller (alot). Their connector seem to be of non standard diameter.

I got it with the calcium dispenser kit.

The pump is great for DIY top-up too. DC really safe no need for a relay.

Its a good if costly buy. Very reliable for me.

ok guys here are some updates

the water top is is finally up and after 2 days of beta testing, here are my findings

Pros

Use of the optical sensor ensures that no snails or lil critters, or conventional float switches falling off glass walls will activate the top up pump

A safety float switch placed above this sensor. It cuts off the top up pump in the event where the sump's water lvl goes beyond that of the float.

top up pump is quiet

instructions and detailed drawings make set up easy, tho some of the text are obviously translated word for word, throwing grammar to the wind.

numerous mounting options

parts are all well made

ample tubings supplied

Cons

the mounting extentions supplied are a lil short, so deep sump owners will have to settle for the silicon mounting option.

"acoustic" warning beep when the safety float switch is activated is just a loud annoying beep. This may be a good thing tho, but the switch is never actiavted in normal circumstances anyway.

the power adapter is HUGE. about 1.5 nokia chargers put abreast each other.

you get a total of 4 wires running out of the control unit so the use of a cable bind is needed.

Conclusion

i'm happy withe the overall performance and the quality make of the product.

4 outta 5 stars
