Need advice on mobile phones

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting a new mobile phone to replace my current Sony Ericsson K508i as it is starting to lag.

I'm looking at the Motorola V3 RAZR and I've seen it's specs.

I know the main bane of this phone lies in the memory space and the camera but both are features that I do not really use that much.

I'm also longing for a phone with FM radio and this is probably the only feature which I dislike about the V3

Furthermore, I heard that newer models, the V3i and the V3x are coming in a few months with added features and improvements from the V3.

So should I wait for the V3i to be released or take the V3 for it's low price?

And I'm looking for a phone under $200 so I'm not sure whether the newer models will exceed that :(

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

I am currently using the V3 at the moment, and personally, I do not fancy it that much. I must admit that when I bought the phone in May '05, I bought it purely for comestic reasons (i.e. it looked good). Other than that, I would not recommend the phone. :pinch:

I did the switch from Sony Ericsson to Motorola and the V3 has really dropped below my expectations. The SMS is hard to use, it also lags, mind you. And lately, I have been having alot of trouble receiving my SMSes. Either I do not receive my SMSes, or I receive them about 2-3 days late.

You may not use alot of memory in your phone (i.e. you do not load pics or ringtones) however memory space is like RAM in the computer. The more you have, the better. Due to the limited memory space, I think it is the primary reason as to why the phone lags. <_<

It also does not have 3G capabilities. However, if you do not use 3G, then this should not affect you.

I am not sure about the V3i or the V3x though. I really hope that the improvement is MUCH greater than what the V3 desperately needs. :eyeblur:

Perhaps other V3 users would like to give their comments on the phone?

Thanks for the personal review cityofangels

The V3i and V3x have improvments to the various cons of the V3

They have FM radio, expandable memory and such.

Think I'll either have to wait for them to come out and hope they have a promotion to make the price lower than $200 or I just bear with my current phone <_<

No worries ;) I am on a personal mission to spread the word that the functionality of the V3 is not as good as it looks. But I have the admit, the new funky pink V3 looks good though. (Sorry, I have a weakness for anything pink.) :look:

I think I'll be going back to Sony Ericsson mobile phones soon. ;)

I have to agree with you sis. Motorola is not a user friendly phone to use but then when I come to think of it why not try something different instead of Nokia. Must admit that Nokia is easy to use.

I used the V975 which is a 3G phone not recommended for those who receive heavy phone calls cause to me it is a very gentle phone. 3G sound good but it sucks big time for my expectation. Now the phone is spoilt. The only thing I like about it is that I can watch cable tv on it.

Switch to (borrow from my nephew, spoilt brat) Sony ericsson W550i very good phone functions are like computer but you need to twist here and there. caters more to the young than to working adult. The ear piece is amazing the sound is pure sony.

Now bought V3 ok only at least better than my V975. No 3G never mind dun really need it any way but it still lags a few features. Anyway you need a 3G sim card for 3G phones.

It is best that you wait and see reviews on the newer V3. Dun jump on it because of its low price. It is like stocking your tank lor, go slow.

Yeah my cousin also got the W550i at a bargain price but it's too fat IMO

Considering the newer models of the V3 would have so many functions, I think the price would be a little steep

And just to ask for a personal experience from V3 users, how is the reception?

I'm really tempted to pop by the mobile shop and get a V3

Can't stand its sleekness and since I'm going to use it primarily as a phone and sms only, is the phone user friendly enough to cover these functions?

Thanks again cityofangels for sharing your experience

I think I can go down to the shop to take a look at the real thing (since looking is free)

And lastly, is the phone very prone to scratches?

It is very prone to scratches and smudges. I keep my phone in a small padded mobile phone pouch, with a small piece of cloth (those types to clean sunglasses). Every time I make a call, I have to use the cloth to wipe the screen and the keypad because you will see ALOT of smudges and face oil. :P

The piece of plastic which the manufacturer sticks on the front of the mobile phone is still ON my mobile phone. I didn't peel it off. And for the inside screen, I bought a screen protector (Martin Field Overlay, to be exact). :)

It is what I call a "high-maintenance" mobile phone. :pinch:

As they say paint the town black. The new V3 black addition.

Personally V3 is an ok phone as said by you tempted by the sleek design. At first look yes it is very sleek and high tech. The first thing that meade me wanna buy it is because of the advertisement where everthing starts to fold up. Once you get the hang of it then it should work out well.

Good luck on your search bro.

Mine conclusion the "best" phones are either Nokia or Sony Ericsson - as Nokia very user friendly, Sony Ericsson very PC compatible. I am due for upgrading of my phone soon - am very interested around the $200 range either the Sony Ericsson K700 or the K550, still waiting for "best" price - either this Christmas if not the Chinese New Year promotions.

Been using Nokia for some time.

V3 cannot make it in terms of GUI.

Best is nokia followed by Ericsson.

Ericsson is fast catching up & Nokia

is turning its sight on a new market.

My sights are on upcoming model:

Sony Ericsson P990.

BH, U have frens who use V3 ?

I suggust U try it 1st b4 committing.

i'm also a owner of a v3 and personally, if you want a phone to curb your inflating hp bills due to smses, then this is the phone to get.

it gets so frustrating just sending out a simple text msg then naturally you'll slowly start to cut down.

switch back to a non-coloured N8250 cuz i can't bring in a camera into my base. and boy, i know what i've been missing man.

who cares bout a camera. used to own a s700i and realised you don't really use all these fancy panzy functions (well, IMO la)

so yep...

I totally agree with you. My SMSes have cut down dramatically since I got this phone. It's either I'm just too frustrated to type the SMS or I don't even receive the SMS from my friends!

What you guys think about the Nokia 6680?

If it is good and satisifies the consumer, I'll get it today
