Turbo Snails

Hi, can anyone identify any of these LS in my LS list that may attack my snails?

Both my Turbo Snail died in the span of about a week. My other LS are fine so far except for a dead algae blenny which survived in the tank for less than 2 weeks.

Wat are other possibilities? Lifespan? Drop from glass or LR and can't upright itself? Hi nitrate or other nutrients?

Sorry, no info for tank parameters except for temp approx 30... Sometimes may go higher. S.G 1022...

well, i think that they are usually quite hardy, but they do die from time to time.

Do you have any hermit crabs? Sometimes they will kill a snail if they are looking for a new shell (hermits grow and need bigger shells from time to time).

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

I already got rid of all crabs cos I'm worried they attk my fishes. Caught my hermit beside my orange shoulder last time. And also decided to keep snails cos they can help rid of algae.

I was wondering if its cos of the fall and they can't upright itself...

most probably cos of your very high temperature could you tell us how does it look like when it is dead? like the whole snail is gone ( the flesh of cos )or like the flesh is tore apart or the whole body is still there some info like this

heh, i don't think it's beacuse of the high temperature. My tank is also around the range of 30 deg.

The snails will die if they are in a upright position.

Maverick77, how did you introduce them into the tank ? they will also need some form of acclimatization.

Ok, basically there are 2 snails... One of them in the tank for abt 2 months since 20th Oct til in Dec I found it upside down at the back of the rock scaping... This one I can't see the flesh still there or not cos can't reach...

2nd one I added for abt 1 week plus 2 weeks... Then it died also upside... The flesh is still inside... Saw my cleaner eating it...

I guess its upside down cos my cleaner shrimp overturn it to eat it I think...

It shldn't be acclimatization for the first case... Was worried is it my bicolor dottyback that attacks it...

snails have the ability to right itself up when it turns turtle. seen it countless of times when was migrating my tank. just threw em in the new tank. i don't think God missed out on that part.

imagine the poor snail... falling upside down... 'opps there goes my life' :D

or in sg context... siao liao ki chia liao.

yup I agree with that as I have seen it myself too if you don't believe you can try and see for yourself but one time to prove is enough wait too many times really die!!! :D

anyway it could be attack somehow or the other or like I say could be the temp as well

my Astraea snail juz turned turtle the other day, and passed away :( , so now much always keep counting daily where they are, 1, 2,3,4,5,6 :D ....

I think maybe because they are smaller in size and not like those turbo snails which have the capability to overturn by it self....

generally they can right themselves, but sometimes not. Remember in the wild they are not being thown in a tank, or falling off shiny glass walls :D

In other words they don't normally ever need to be able to right themselves as they would never normally turn turtle. We have put them in a vastly different world than they have evolved for.

But fortunately, they are cheap and readily available.....
