Need help with sump

Hi,i have been always longing to have a sump. But i dun know how much it cost to have one,including of the pipings and pumps.How and where should it be sitiuated.

What happens if you power supply cut off,then does the water flow out continuesly?

How many pumps in a sump.pls help me with this,really blur on sumps

I'm sure there are alot of threads detailing sump setups

Main Tank: 48" x 18" x 24" 12mm with external overflow piping

Sump Tank: 28" x 14.5" x 12" (3 compartments)

Lightings: T5 HO - Hopar 3* 39w + ATI 2* 54w

Skimmer: Skimz Bullet Beckett

Chiller: Resun CL-650 (28 - 29 °C)

Wavemakers: 2* Seio M620 + 1* Hydor K2 (7100 litre / hr)

Fluidized Reactor: Skimz FR (currently empty)

Pumps: 1x Rio 32HF (Skimmer), 1x Rio 20HF (Return & Chiller)

Filtration: more than 80kg LRs, chaeto

Water Circulation: ~ 4000 litre / hr

Future Plans: additional wavemaker, DIY algae scrubber, DIY overflow box

Previously:

got any links to help...because not sure on what type of pumps to use.

The sump is normally situated lower than the main tank.

The concept roughy goes like this -- there will be an outward flow from the main tank to the sump (gravity flow) and the an inward flow from the sump back to the main tank (aided with pump).

The purpose of the sump is to compartmentalised the water process flow (filteration, skimming.. etc).

Sump tank can be rather expensive depending on your specifications. As for the piping etc, it can be done DIY to save a little cost. Though some work is needed but it is definately better than getting someone to do it for you. Afterall, the man is working on your ideas only.

you may want to look at other reefers' sump before coming out with the sump u want.
