Temp Ques

Hi all,

As my tank is placed in my bedroom, it actually measures 25.6 deg at night and goes up to 27.5 deg in the day, it has never passed this mark. To date, only 2 x 2ft PLs are employed, I intend to get a 150Watt MH too. Is this kind of fluctuation too much to buid a reef?

Also, anyone located their chiller out of the room say 10+ ft away from the tank? Is this possible, dun really want to put a chiller in my rm.

the fluctuation do u mean sudden increase in light intensity?

2 ways to go abt that,

1. if u hav onli a few corals, place them in shade n bottom, gradually moving them out after weeks

2. buy a hanging type MH... hang the MH higher, gradually bring down its height over time (maybe over 2 or 3 weeks)

in this way, ur corals wont feel the impact of sudden increase in light intensity

u r rite that u must employ a chiller if u decides to buy a MH...

if i'm not wrong, u wanna put the chiller in ur balcony or stg like that?

by laying 10+ ft hoses, u need to take note of somethings:

1. there r 2 hoses, 1 going to the chiller n 1 comin back

2. will the 2 hoses trip over somebody?

3. are the 2 hoses unsightly?

4. most importantly, u will need a veri strong pump that can drive water across the 10+ ft length... if flowrate is too low, ur chiller will not function to expectations

The temp fluc is only 2.1 degrees, its ok. My tank temp has fluctuated from 25 to 29 on a daily basis before.

I think if your tank inhabitants are healthy and there are no other stress factors, there should be no probs with such temp changes.

I mean at night, the lowest point it can reach is 25 deg. then during the day when the aircon is off and the lights come one, it gradually hits a high of 27.5 deg. I'm afraid the fluctuation is too great for the lifestock to sustain but achilles tang has proven otherwise.

Thanks for your advice, I have no LS in my tank yet. Will get all lightings done and equipment in place b4 introducing them.

So you had success even with 4 deg fluctuation. OK, I will intro LS gradually and see how they react. Thanks
