Trying my luck with clam

Guys & Gals;

I'm going to buy a couple of clam for my tank in Surabaya, 2"-3" for $5 a piece.

I using 4 24W T5, which I think is suffice for starter.

Problem is that how can I distinguish what clam am I buying. The LFS here have no clue in them, they just sell when it is harvested.

Also, they lights is quite bad thus cannot see the clam fully open.

RIPs (Since June 2005):

1. Sabae clown (KO by Clarke clown) 2. 1 branch melted frogspawn 4 branch 3. Golden maxima (Ripe the base off rock by me) 4. Algae Bleenie x 2 (Starvation) 5. Blue Maxima x 1, 2 x Maxima, 1 x frogspawn, rics (Overtemp...)

Wow sei so cheap ah??$5 apiece???? :yeah:

Try look for those tat bases r attach to a rock.. ;)

Since u r using T5 onli n i assume its HO type,try putting e clam high up near e surface so tat they can get more lgts....Tats wat im doing now,im using T5 HO lgt onli n its growing... :D

try the webbie below for the ids:

get those that look exotic like those tear drop maximas...

for its health... find those attached firmly to a rock and shuts up forcefully...

tink another thing u gotta take note is whether u can bring them back a not... they r considered hard corals which needs CITES i tink...

Cannot really see the lights under the street condition. Maybe I will try to touch it and see if it close sharply.

But really how to tell if it is maxima or something else?

By the way, most are blue or purple, very few brown. Cannot see whether tear drop or not as they are not fully opened.

Actually I can bring in more even 10 if they have. But I just afraid Singapore custom confiscate if too many...

I try lah, bcos I coming back 22rd and I will go to LFS on the way to airport. If they have enuf on that day itself, I try to get as many as possible.

Actually I thinking of bring in maybe 3 of them... Sure got one good I guess...

some traits for id is the overall shape n the shell shape... for e.g. crocrea has a smoother shell surface than a maxima :)
