Anthony, I think in your case, a dead sea fan would do just fine, or maybe even a dried tree branch.

A live sea fan will actually die if it is constantly disturbed by the SH through gripping.

They are similar to clams in that they have a symbiotic relationship with algae whose functino is to convert sunlight into sugars.

So you do not feed them like normal gorgonians. Just give them plenty of light.

i got sea fan from PSB aready.. opening up just minutes when i put in my tank.. vey nice.. mine tank so far do well.. with only 2 fl.. only dared trying it cause seeing my mushrooms are splitting etc.
