have started a nano tank. it sits right next to our 5 foot reef tank so it shares water from the reef tank sump - all nicely stable and chilled :-)

Idea is to keep a couple of clowns, a few shrimps and some tiny gobies.

has only been set up for a short while, but already has an anemone, two clowns, one ###### shrimp, one hovering shrimp, one tiny pepperrmint gby and two other tiny gobies (need to ask my wife their names...)

tank is 18" x 12" x 12". It has a corner overflow (tank was custom made for S$40). Water drains into our reef tank sump and is pumped back. Am using a little ehiem power head to circulate the water.

Bro can give me the contact of the tank maker? I'm thinking of setting up a small nano in my office.

In the past he has made me a 3 foot tank, a 5 foot tank and now this nano tank. There is nothing special about them: just basic tank makers but his prices are always reasonable and the delivery time good.

Hi bro I see that ur bigger tank is on a WI stand... I'm contemplating on upgrading to a 3ft or 4ft tank on my current 4ft WI stand but I'm afraid of the rusting... how do u deal with that?

Nice nano I must say :D

dkk088, you have several otpions. One is to get it made out of stainless steel, but the normal tank manufacturers can't do that. You need to fin d a stainless steel fabricator and the pay lots of money. I looked into that - my WI stand cost less than S$200. If I got it fabricated in SS it would have been over S$500.

Other option is to put several layers of a good oil-based steel paint, which is what I did, ESPECIALLY the areas that are likely to rust first, and also in the structurally important areas, such as the welds.

Arhhh now I know... so SS stand definitely can withstand the salt and the whole rusting effect... :thanks: bro time for me to source for a SS stand :yeah:

dkk08, if you are serious about a SS stand then ask them to make it in grade 316 stainless steel. This is a higher grade SS that is much better for marine use. The lower grades of SS can still rust - just not as quickly as WI.
