Use of Garlic

An experienced reefer was surprised that I was mixing a little garlic juice every day with the fish food. I now understand that many people only add garlic when their fish have ich. I thought that using a bit each day will help build up the fishes immunity to disease.

Is it Ok to be adding garlic daily?

By the way, the fish LOVE IT.

hmm... ermmm..

i dunno, i also mix my food with garlic.

coz i have very few fishes, i'll thaw, feed, the refreeze the left over. what i do is that i'll thaw, drain away the water, then put in garlic. feed, then refreeze the left over with the left over garlic. =)

hmm...i hope there aren't any repercussions...

Actually, I prefer to feed my fishes Formula Two pellets as they are already enriched with garlic

It's not bad as my tangs are all free of ich but if you add garlic juice to the food, I think it works just as well

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

Agreed with blueheaven.

What i do is that since garlic juice need to buy (spend money) or extracted by urself (use garlic for cooking, spend mum's money) which is tedious process, i just add soak abit of formula II pellets when thawing my frozen brine shrimp.

When the fish eat the pellets, they gobble up the frozen food as well.

No repercussions since i doing it everyday, except collective bad breath?

it appears that regular use of garlic mixed with food, is quite common and a good way to go. I use Garlic Guard, but there seems to be many other products avail. A few people squeeze their own, but i am def. too lazy for that!

I just add a few drops of garlic into the frozen shrimp and then mix it up when it thaws.

My yellow tang has been on a diet including daily garlic intake for one year and has never caught ich, even when newbies to the tank around him had it quite badly, inclcuding a purple tang......

cityofangels, thanks for the link to the article - it makes interesting reading.

Well, it would appear that there is little scientific evidence to prove the effectiveness of garlic, or not. However there would appear to be lots of anecdotal evidence, and by all accounts it is certainly not causing any harm to the fish.

I think that I will continue adding it regularly to the fish food.

May&Bry... yes the study says no evidence, but, dont we all have experince the good of the garlic, how many of us have get rid of ich just with the use of garlic.

Garlic is one of the product that it doesnt have to be bought expensive, in my country evry drugshop stock garlic pelets for human use and are very chep.
