Hi, I have a cyano and byrosis problem...

I have reduce my photoperiod from 12hr to 6 hr...

And tune my skimmate to a wetter skimmate...

Added GAC...

Will be adding Rowas later...

Heard that dosing of Kalk help in the reduction of Cyano as it bind phosphate(something like that)... Is it true?

Anybody use RedSlime Remover? Does it helps?

TIA...

share wth you...

hit by cynao just after 3 months of reefing...so what i do...

- remove the affected ares with bare hands and try not to let them drift to other unaffected areas. (sounds easy but quite diff)

- reduce photoperiod (less off 3 hrs)

- Check NO3 and PO4 status, realised PO4 stands at 1 (using salifert testkit)

- Quickly buy FR and install with AquazPurphos (that time Rowas no stock)

-come home very early to monitor the areas..

-kang cheong and bought red slim chemicals for standby

- Few weeks later, cynao battles complete ..gone!

- and the red slim chemicals bought already.....Never use at all! :D

Hope it helps!

also check water current / movement. Had same problem but it went away after I increased water flow to 10 times turnover per hour and lots of water movement from power heads

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

Let me share a recent experience on removing red slime - a major headache for many months doing everything else recommended.

1. Applied a conversative dosage of ultalife red slime remover. By conservative was to based on the dosage on a small volume of water - about 20%

2. Turn off skimmer for 24 hrs

3. Effect was evident. No casualty.

4. Turn on skimmer but need to tune it down before bring it back up to normal level

5. Invest in a fluidized reactor and rowas because I hear phosphate (in general should be zero) is a contributor.

6. Monitoring now...holding very well.

Thanks everyone.. Going to get a FR and Rowas soon...

What i had in mind is to:

1: Clear the existing slime in the tank using Redslime remover as it is an antibotics, will kill the cyano...

2: Add a FR and Rowas to prevent future outbreak due to high phosphate...

Sound logical?

ANybody encountered byrosis before? Have quite a few of those growing also...
