problem with hermits = big ones may attack fishes n snails n push over corals.... so get those very sml ones ...... 1-3 cm type ....

snails better for algae but just make sure u dont get those drills as they'll feedon yr bivalves

Actaully those pyramid-shelled snail r trochus.

They're commonly available for $1 .. they can be spotted around the southen coast of Singapore as well

they're effective against hairalgae .. i do see their bite marks amoung the brown film algae .. but i think my magnet cleaner is more effective

they do not seems to prey on macroalgae

many factors why they died in your tank... assuming ur is already cycled.. NO3 is already at satisfactory level.. maybe they couldnt acclimatize ?? how did u transport ur snail from LFS to ur tank and acclimatize?

normally i'll request the LFS sales person to not to add water to the bag.. so i'll transport them dry... or if u insist on transporting them wet u can try to place them in empty container and let dry for 15min to allow them to expel excess saltwater..b 4 introducing them into your tank.

yep no prob at all being dry cos they can be found during low tides along the beaches here as well. Tides these 2 days very gd low 0.3 m at ard 7 pm,, so maybe u can collect some... Just like to reiterate, do not collect the drills that are very commonly found here. Best look for smaller turbos or trochus as these 'll eat the algae off yr tank walls....

my tank are very often with brownish stains on the glass. Are those algae? So if I would to get the snails, they will remove the brown stain on the glass?

I really have never seen LFS carrying snails though.

advice pls?

I got 2 of those snails from Reborn after fed up with the stains. They did a good job 24hr-cleaning my liverocks and glass... cleared all the hairy algae.

The brown stains on the tank are improved already but maybe mine too long still got abit stain

the snails in the pic is nassarius

i have 1 piece in my tank but it dosnt seem to help much with the algae

it burrows itself in the sand most of the time so much that its MIA

I got 2 turbos for my 2 ft.. they snapped up all the algae until my hermit crab forced to scavage on my sandbed.. usually it just feeds on the liverock algae enough already..

ok,I stay in the central area and also not sure if its the right snail I m bringing home from the beach..

I might drop by reborn these few days to get a few snails

so bring the snails home and throw right into the tank right?dont need to feed them? In any case if the snails died, would it crash the tank?

stix: yes .. any animal u intent to introduce should be given the corrent parametes!

Jaslyn: u can try the drying method i posted earlier

they'll crash ur tank if ur filter is not good enu to take care of the decomposing dead snail ..
