Hmmm i am thinking of setting up a refugim(hope it spell correctly) tank underneath my main tank...

I am still quite not sure how it should look like... anione can help??

I onli know that it is sort of like a emergency tank to put sick fish or corals in it to recover.

And also wat accessories is needed in it?? skimmer??? etc??

There is no exchange of water from the main tank to the refugism rite??? a sump will exchange water but no a refugism rite?

Thankzz. plss help and teach me

A refugium is:

1) A place where you grow macro algae to help in nitrate & phosphate reduction.

2) A place where you have a DSB to help in nitrate reduction.

3) A place (refuge) where critters such as pods can live & multiply without being immediately eaten by something else bigger!

4) etc.

You can build a refugium using a tank of its own, or you can combine it with a sump using the same tank but separated using partitions. It is usual to place the refugium and/or sump below the main tank but there's no reason why you can't place it higher than the main tank.

Actually, there's an advantage of placing the refugium higher. Water from the refugium will flow into the main tank using gravity. This means that whatever tiny creatures that may be in the refugium will not be sucked by a pump and risk being flattened or chopped by the pump's impeller.
