now I got the option for both .. a resun cl650 or a teco (think it's a 680)

both 2nd hand. . which one should I go for ??

one is probably like 1/2 the price of the other .. but I don't really care about price .. just want one that'll give me peace of mind .. of course if the resun is good .. then better still since it's lower priced meaning I can spend the money on LS !! :D:D

for me its support and reliability.. have not heard a teco breakdown but have heard alot of resun issues (ok alot as in 4-5 :P compared to teco 0)

anyway whoever calculated that power consumption probably failed maths

1 hp=745 watts.. how 618watts= 1.56hp ????

and biased too probably to justify for the maths.. one calculated using amp x volts

the other use max wattage consumption.. :D

if you understand marketing.. you'll understand why its max power consumption rated and not nominal power output rated

That's because the cheaper chiller spoilt easily, just check around with reefers here who's tank crashed due to the Atman chiller breaking down and tank water temp shoot up.

Anyway 618Watt is the measured current drawn from the artica 1/2hp chiller.

However I recently measured my artica and drawing only 2.2A

So it should be drawing 220V X 2.2A = 484Watt only.

Atman 1/2HP (overall) -compressor rating 1/4HP

Wattage 320watts

Artica 1/2HP (compressor) - cooling power 1.56hp.

wattage 484watts.

Assuming artica chiller runs 6hrs/day and atman 12hrs/day..

Artica -

2.2A X 220V = 484watts

(484watts x 6hrs x 30 days)/1000 = 87.12kWh

87.12kWh x $0.1957/kWh = $17.05/month

Atman

(320watts x 12hrs x 30 days)/1000 =115.2kWh

115.2kWh x $0.1957/kWh = $22.54/month

Difference in running cost

$22.54 - $17.05 = $5.49 savings/month.

Cost of chiller

Atman = $600

Artica = $1700

Difference in chiller cost

$1700 - $600 = $1100

Break even period

$1100 / $5.49/month = 200.3 months = 16years!

However please note the reliability of the two chillers :P

More cooling power is good also on super hot days when you will be praying that you have a more powerful chillers.

:) a very down to earth breakdown.

IMO, should go for a realiable one . :peace:

surely then if price is not impt to you, then on what would you put as impt.?

... don't get me wrong here, I hate my resun, for the noise and ambient heat it produces... + I get reminded abt it from my better half, when it runs on in her presence. : ) but its still one of the best value chilllers you can ever get in this market.... if not the best. Think about it for a second.... if money is not impt, you won't mention it as a factor.

Actually while we on this, I think many don't see the importance of choosing a chiller based on your tank size. I was reminded about this after seeing a posting on SeanT's crashed tank thread in RC.

Best on your choice, bro :)

thanks for the replies ..

went with Teco it's a RA680 to chill a 3ft tank :D

takes 30mins to cool tank to 27 degrees, on for 15 mins every 2 hours to cool the tank .. so 180mins a day consumption for now .. not bad :D :D

Weileong > you the original poster of th breakdown ?? :P

sometimes not everything can be broken down via monetary offsets which you rightly point out .. :D (reliability and support being one of them)

Madmac > 3 posts up I mentioned reliability and support .. I also mentioned in the original post if can save, then spend the money on LS .. hehehe :P .. I put the statement there cos I know that'll be one of the considerations most pple will use :)

anyway, OT I've bought cheap stuff that worked for 5 mins and broke.. then I twiddle thumb coz no warranty or support .. I bought a 4 digit small small thing that broken 1 year downstream.. and I got free replacement, I got step by step guide on how to do minor repairs if it breaks again, I got free replacements on other support equipments .. so I was asking based on this assumption .. there's cheap chillers, there's good chillers, there may not be a cheap and good chiller
