Hi Guys, i have keep marine fish for 2 months since i have moved to my new house. i have tried keeping different clown fish during this period. Up to now, 5 have died in total. I am really upset about this. My other damsel fishes din attack them but often after few days, their bodies will have a cotton-like substances sticking on them. Then they die. I have 2 more now, bought it yesterday.. true percula clown, they seem happy and healthy to me but they won't eat the different food i fed them.

I am desperate.... i don't want them to die.. any advice? thanks a million... :(

sounds like parasites. did u buy all the clownfishes from the same lfs?

I bought them at different stalls (sorie dunno what lfs mean, maybe someone can help me so that i may understand thm in future.. TQ!)

Are clownfish that difficult to rear? But my other fishes are there to stay... and i don't have anemonia.. heard that they can survive without anemonia, true?

Clownfish r act quite hardy fish for beginners.... they dun realli need special treatments...

Did u actually cycle ur tank b4 introducing ur fishes?

Did u overstock?

u might wan to specify ur tank size n the inhabitants inside the tank community so that the problem can be identified?

Not afraid to tell u guys, my tank first consists of damsel fish to cycle the tank, looks like they are here to stay coz they survive for more than 2 months already...

My tank is purely fish and a couple of liverocks.

I have these fishes:

-Three 3-strips damsel

-2 foxface

-1 blue, yellow, and brown damsel

-1 domingo damsel

-1 dottyback

-2 starfish (Red & Brittle)

My Fish tank is 2&1/2 feet big... I let my saltwater settle down for a week or so before introducing fish. The initial fishes are still alive...

my fishes are not too big so i think it's still not overcrowded yet. What do u guys think?

The damsels din attack my clownfish at all, today one of the 2 died. I think i would give up, i am just not fate to rear clownfish. Is it stress?

My water parameters is normal too...

hey 1 week is not long enough for you to put your fish in.......IMo your tank should not be ready yet(not fully cycled) hey get those test kit i mention and show us the reading. Those fish you mention did not die because they are damsel, fish that is extremely hardy and territorial that can thrive under terrible water condition thats why don't just base on your damsel surviving well to tell us your tank is cycled

For my first tank, I put in damsels after one week. After second week bought 2 clowns. The 2 clowns die within 3 days. The damsels still with me.... :heh: I know that was when I learnt the advice from a lfs who say after 4 days can put fish in already. My present clowns I put in after 1.5 months. They are doing very well. Eat everything I throw in. Even try to eat my hands  You need to check your water parameter such as nitrates. Do you have a protein skimmer?

you mentioned you only measure PH in your first few post in this thread, so how u know the water parameters are ok ?

IMO, your tank is undergoing cycling, as Dispar have mentioned. Your clownfishes might be dying due to high level of toxic gases during the cycling period.

I suggest you wasting your hard earn $$$ and stop adding new fishes.

Get a set of test kits asap and measure the water parameters. With some reference, then we can start troubleshooting the problem.

For a proper cycling period, normally, it will takes 3-4 weeks, sometime longer.

Ask again if in doubt. :)

Yes my tank have askimmer in fact i go fr overskimming with Weipro 2013..... IMo skimmer is one of the most important equipment in the tank as it remove toxic and unwanted waste that might pollute your tank
