Hi all, currently cycling my 3 ft tank with market prawn for 3 days liao... must i remove the prawn cos it seems to be bloated up and coated with a layer of slimy thing? I tested the ammonia and its ok. Suppose to have a ammonia spike , right ? (I transfered my LR from my 2ft tank previous with the tank water plus NSW) Thanks all...

Leave the prawn until it disappear. You check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, not only ammonia. Read more on the cycle process.

if its a huge piece dont leave in there .... cause it just extend the period of the cycle ... the point of the prawn so u add some ammonia so u can feed the baterica to which converts ammonia to nirite to nirate ... then once that happens u can add fish so those ... can be the source of ammonia ...

if there is no ammonia i guess its all nirite now once that is 0 the cycle is done :)

Ok... ok.. jokes aside, the member of pali is bout half the size of a adult thumb.. still inside the tank currently.. will test the parameters in a few days time..

Another thing is that my tank temp is on the high side(bout 30 degree).

Saw a few of the "Jebo" bland 4 in a row 2" fan and another type single 5"-6" fan for sale (forgot the bland). Effective in reducing and maintaining the temp under 30 degree)?

Chiller is out for me at the moment. Thanks all for the advice..

Ok... which type of fan you are referring to? The AC fans are DIY ones or can be bought at LFS? Noisy ? Any rust problem? Got any pics to show? Sorry for the trouble.. Thanks.

AC fan bought from LFS. Cost ard $30. If water is splash on it definetly will rust.

Currently, the mp has already disappear from the tank 6 - 7 days ago..tested the water parameters for the past few days...

Ammonia level undetected

Nitrite level undetected.

However, the Nitrate has been extremely high for the past few days> 40mg/l (using sera test kit).

What do i do next? Will the NO3 be reduce on its own in another few weeks time? Thanks.

I read the "article haven". It says something like NO3 can be reduced by means of DSB by anaerobic bacteria or micro algae.. but i do not have either both. Does that mean that my NO3 will not be reduced or will be much slower by bacteria in LR.

I only have bout 2.5-3 inch of SB. 20 plus kg of LR in a 3 * 1.5 * 1.5 tank IOS.

Do i have to change 10 - 20 % of water now then?

Thanks guys. :D

So any problem with the fishes at the moment? Useful in dosing those denitrate liquid?

Just got one "big" fan profantec and been running it for bout 12 hrs liao... temp drop to about 28.5 degree now. Quite effective in lowering the temp. Initially without the fan was like 31 degree. Only problem I think will be the evaporation maybe stable SG lol...
