Pesky sand sifters

How to stop my two sand sifters from digging under my elegance and toppling it!!!!

It's a little difficult as my friend had the same problem..kept digging under the clam till it toppled so only way was to shift the clam.

But who knows? your sand sifter might get bored one day and decide to sift somewhere else.

What kind of sand sifters are these? Are they goby or wrasse? I had a coris wrasse that keep turning my prata and brains over for food. Sometime, the action went unnoticed, and several days later, you find yourself a dead prata that cost 10 times more than the price of the wrasse.

I'm glad I set a trap and removed it finally.

PITA on all these sand sifters....won't be adding anymore in the future.

Something strong enought to topple the elegance sounds like a fish to me. hehehe

BTW, what do you guys think about sea cucumber? Is it effective in sifting the sand?

Are these sea urchin capable to topple corals? Any picture?

My sand-sifter starfish can topple my clams by burrowing under the clams. Quite frustrating at times, to keep re-positioning the clams.

attach/put ur corals on a PVC pipe that reaches all the way to the tank

bottom.

Best sand-sifters I had tried is the sand dollar..... cheap, does it's job and best thing is that it will not bombard sand all over the freaking place nor it will distrub any corals. The catch is that it may not work on bigger grains of sand like grade 3 and above.

Thanks guys....mine are the diamond spotted gobies - they are too efficient. Saw a sand dollar at henry's....i think that they are the way to go.

now I am wondering if the also eat up all the good bacteria in the sand? I have a 5 foot tank and these two medium-szied gobies - they move huge piles of sand daily, to a depth of two inches. Sand is really clean, but what about all the goody bacteria and such that lives in the sand? Will that have disappeared???
