hammy
generally pico tank is one of the challenge i dare not take up. other than unstable parameter come with flatuation with temperature , then too much evaporation , then unstable salinity, limited LS and coral, difficulties in getting the desired equipment. e.g too powerful pump will cause sandstorm, too strong lighting will cost greenhouse effect. nevertheless, jia you. since tank vol is relatively small, i feel a constant 15-20% of water should be change every 4-5 days to enhance stability to the system. possible to run a sump. though it's not easy, it's not too super hard too.must be hardworking in maintaining a pico. abolute no fish will be the best with colourful softies . unstable parameter does not help to keep clam/ SPS/ or even LPS is not that great either. SRC Member cdckjn Posted November 2, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 2, 2005 If I want to start a pico tank (1ft) then I will do a overflow within the tank (silicon DIY partition) with a airstone skimmer, then put Live Rock, put 1 starfish, 2 hermit crab, 2 snails, maybe 1 fire goby, some mushrooms, some featherdusters, some more soft corals. all of this on a 1.5" sand bed. Simple FL lights - white only. Am going to do it next few weeks, perhaps will start a new thread in the nano tank.

SRC Member cdckjn Posted November 4, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 4, 2005 I think my personal challenge would be to create a 1ft tank with everything inside - that means the skimmer, "sump", refugium, return pump etc all inside the 1ft tank. The lights will be on the top. Mostly softies and perhaps only shrimps, hermit, goby fish only. This would allow me to physically move the tank from place to place.
