Diatoms = Alagae?

Are they the same thing? Or subgroup of the other?

anyway, my tank sandbed is cover with a layer of brown/purplish stuff...looks like the seaweed i feed to my tangs....hahaha

how to get rid of it?

Is it due to too much light? Insufficient lightings? Prolong lighting? mmm...too much phosphate and nitrates in my tank?

It's cyano, short for Cyanobacteria.

Use the search function, enter 'cyano' or 'cyanobacteria', there are a lot of posts where this has been covered before, esp. how to deal with them.

Let your fingers do some walking. :)
