SRC Member cdckjn Posted October 30, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted October 30, 2005 I went to a fellow reefer's tank, he says that those little dust, bits of floating particles can/will flow down to through the overflow into the sump but mine does not. I was thniking is there any ways effectively that can remove this "floating oil" on the surface of water, my overflow does not seems to draw it down to the sump? Can I use an external method, using filter paper to "suck" up these particles? any seniors got any ideas to share? Thanks.
hammy
ur best bet is to include a surface skimmer . by right ur overflow should remove the debris to ur sump as ur friend suggested . maybe ur return pump is not strong enough?? a manuel removing of surface can be achieve by dabbing those thick tissue paper on the surface . but very troublesome. FuEl
D.I.Y a surface skimmer is quite simple. Get some pvc pipes, form a small square or rectangle. Drill a hole through the frame and insert another pipe into the hole. This pipe will guide surface water into the floating rectangle. Use an air pump to blow air into the protruding pipe and all your floating debri will be collected into the floating device. Then soak it up with whatever you wish. SRC Member cdckjn Posted November 4, 2005 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 4, 2005 By understanding your description the things looks like this? But how still to remove the floating stuff? use paper to "suck" it up?
