Anyone running a tank w/o skimmer but with refuge?

am hoping to decommision my skimmer, as its really noisy. but not sure whether my macro algae would be sufficient export. haha. currently have ulva in the sump, wiht lights running 24/7.

current stock:

flame angel

yellow watchman goby

ideal stock:

flame angel(small)

yellow watchman goby

yellow tang(small)

cleaner shrimp

you all think it is possible for me to do it without a skimmer? =)

oh yes, mine's a 2ft tank with a 2ft sump. with some softies and LPS.

I ran a 2 footer without a sump and skimmer. Live stock was a pair of clowns, royal gramma and a goby.

Just gotta be dilligent with your water changes. Ideally once a week but i got lazy and did once in two week....it's definately doable but just watch your levels and don't overfeed and you'll be fine....and that is also if nothing dies in the tank and causes a spike in your tank...in which case, immediately do a major water change 20-30 percent.

im running another tank previously without skimmer and any filteration..as what bro southpaw mentioned, u need to be very very hardworking...check water and montitor...and changes water once needed! hope these helps!

i got a 3ft "jail tank" wich consist the ...2 damsels veri fat, 1pair of maroon clown, female is quite huge n a koran.....dun ask me y i put them there instead of main tank.....cause they r in the main tank hahahaa....basically tis jail tank consist of LR only n overhead filter.....its been survivng for haf yr n no casualty had happen in there...water change once a mth w feedin twice aday w a cube of brine per seving....../

Think in long run it's not a good idea to do without a skimmer IMO,y not upgrade to a better skimmer or perhaps just change to a quieter pump?

i have a 2.5ft tank with sump only... got a tang(dunno wat name) abt 1 month, coral beauty(abt 5months), maroon clown(3months), purple firefish(2months), abt 6 cleaner shrimp(4months), purple head boxer shrimp(5months),blue devil damsel(6-7months) the tank is only 4months old...
