Ozonisers with protein skimmers

I remember Francis posted about ozone leading to a drop in skimmate production.

I've noticed this in my skimmer too and I'm rather curious why that happens.

I noticed that when the ozoniser is on during the day, skimmate starts to lessen and when it is off during the night, I find lot's of skimmate in the morning.

Any ideas?

Hmm that's wierd

Cause I read in RC that ozone actually converts the DOC into products that are more easily skimmed

Ok, I'll reduce the ozone and monitor a few days

I'm using it without a controller (getting one soon!)

Yeah I know that

However, ORP is also influenced by many other factors and could also lead to an overdose if you connect the ozoniser to it.

Look at it this way, ORP falls when you do not change your water for a long time and it turns on the ozoniser to keep the ORP values up. This way, you'll still overdose or overheat the ozoniser.

I'm running mine for 15 mins every hour for 6 hours and so far, I've not noticed any stress from my corals.

Even with Controller, there is a high chance of overdose too if you are using Enaly.

I find the Enaly is not very safe.

This is what happen to me:

- My tank was at 220.

- I set my ORP to 250.

- My tank when from 220 to 320.

I think the main reason is because of the amount of ozone that is pumped in. It does not give enough time for the ozone to complete normalize within the tank.

It has already been a week and my ORP reading did not go below 320. Now I am setting to 350 and will monitor to see what happen.

I have my Enaly on my Beckett with the air valve almost half closed.

I truely doubt that there is 200mg even if I run it for an hour.

But I'd rather like consistent dosage than it being controlled by a controller which measures a value that is not fully linked to it B)
