Hi guys, currently i'm setting up my new 3ft tank. The height of the tank is 2.5ft. I intend to use 6 x PC light and 2 x FL light for my reef system. I'm planing to keep LPS. So is my light sufficient for my system? I don intend to get a MH coz i don have a chiller at the moment. However i install a 3 x PC fan on the hood and 1 x clip-on fan on the sump, maintaining my temp to 27 - 28deg.

bro, i dun tink e PL light can reach the bottom of ur tank as its 2.5ft deep.

if u r not using MH, at least consider 4 x t5HO.... tink it will be cost effective and efficient in e long run.

dun risk e life of expensive corals u r investing in :P... get a 2nd hand chiller and T5s instead... use a fan n u will have to top-up lots of water everday, dam lei chey :D. i used to do that until i gave up and got a cheap resun chiller.

Tink it will be much easier to get all ur equipments at e begining, rather than upgrade later B) ... although this option will costs u quite alot of $$$ at first.

Cheers!

What wattage PL/PC bulbs are you planning on using. Generally, light penetration for both PL/PC bulbs and T5 bulbs are effective around 1 to 1.5 feet and 2 feet would be pushing it a lil. However, most LPS should do fine with these lighting configurations if it's kepts at the top half of the tank...Seeing that your tank is 2.5ft deep, it's going to be tricky maintaining LPS on the sandbed...especially pratas and cynarinas etc....they might bleach very slowly over time.

I think overall, it's a doable configuration....but u will have to note the progress of your lps closely to note for signs of bleaching....u could line the bottom with lotsa softies tho...shrooms and ricordeas etc.... ;)

HTH.....

bro, u looking for a CL280 for ur tank izit???

Abit underpower i tink.... ur tank size quite big, why not get a CL650???

Costs abit more but it will cool down e tank much faster :D

Thnks, but out of budget at the moment... i think it should be ok i as long it can maintain to the required temp it will be fine. Witness my fren using Cl280 for his 2yrs 3ft reef tank. So far everything is fine. Anyway thanks for the advices. :)
