hi melvyn...

i am thinking of getting a denitrator.... however, i read somewhere... that using sulphur balls will reduce the ph in the water???? is it true??? <_<

Yes it is true, which is why you will need to boost it up to equilibrium before returning it back to the water - usually by way of coral sand to buffer the water.

It is at Balestier, near hotel 81 and Hoover, the other benchmark would be near Quality Hotel...

Are you using a one-way kinda flow device and is your tube very long?

If you are not using the flow device, you should have no problems maintaining the drops...can pm of call me cheers !

hi melvyn.,..

juz got it from sealife today... gonna fix it up..... so like you say ... when we first fix up the stuff.... its one drop per sec??? 3-4 days later abt 3-4 drops per sec???? my tank is a 6ft tank,... correct me if i am worng!!!!

cos the instruction damn messy.... put one drop per sec.... then 3-4 days later test the water from the de-nitrator... if zero ,, increase the drop to 3-4 drop.... then test again later.... if goes up to 1 then after that reduce the drop again.... wah!!!

can advise the steps tat u are doing.....

Yes...however the time frame i experienced is not 3-4 days it becomes 0 nitrate when the flow is 1 drop per sec, it is dependent on the nitrate level in your tank...it took me longer  can call me tomorrow to discuss? my number 9383 7335

ok bro.. thanks... one last question.... the water where u drip it into the clear plastic tube where u put carbon at the end... do u submerge the tube in the sump... i noticed from your pics u put just above the water level.... :D

Its half submerged, half exposed  just remember to change maybe once in a month (relatively little carbon)...

Hmmm... dun kno how a few sulphur pallets ended up in my my tank. Tat stupid emperor tot round pallet thingy = fish food & happily swallow a few...gosh :ph34r:

Hope he dun LS or gana poison the next day :pinch:

please update us..btw i heard that sulphur denitrator can be dangerous if not use properly as i can become H2S. To be exact is deadly

btw...can i use mod my aquamedic and add some sulphur beads.. <_<

btw..me just curious on how things can be.... mod a resun fr into a denitrator..

just a playful tots

Hi Bro,

Really wondered how the sulphur beads gets into the water - doubt its via the top dripper as you have the coral sand above the sulphur media. Hope your fish is fine :D

Just consider a bit before applying the denitrator....sometimes if not details will found the yellow syndrome, PH drop etc.... I did a view years ago.

the link below better if read first.

http://mars.reefkeepers.net/USHomePage/USA...tionSoufre.html

Hi,

Its application has been quite successful on previous documented accounts, yes there will be a ph drop so it is essential to buffer the water before return.

Between, the link to the article was read before, are you the reviewer?

Cheers,

mel

H2S will be produced if the containment is fully devoid of oxygen. As long as you monitor constant flow, it'll be ok. It'll be a good thing to return the drips from the unit via a column of carbon.

Well read it over again, its been quite successful for 7 years...no mention of yellow syndrome (between what is that ??) it is natural for ph and alkalinity drop...so buffering is necessary.

Sometime to add on. Apart from using NO3 test kit to understand if the denitrification has established, one can also make use of an ORP meter. If ORP is in the range of -50mv to -250mv. It shows the presences of denitrification bacteria. if the ORP reading drops below -250mv, then the bacteria inside the reaction chamber is actually producing H2S. As such need to increase the drip rate to push orp again.

This pcs of information, I got from the aquamedic 400L denitrator manual.
