Cycle: ammonia then nitrite (NO2) then Nitrate (NO3)

Now setting up big tank with new water and salt.

Ugent needed to bring down smaller tanks and tranfer all LS and coral to big tank

Is it possible:

Put dead pawns or shrimps FOR try Increase NO3 first so that NO2 (now 20ppm) will be fast reduce to 0 PPM

Of course must macro management the tank prevent over shoot NO3

is it possible and fast way???? :whistle

i tested tap water NO3= 30

boiled water and cool down = NO3 =30

No2 also abt 30

everything is the same colour. I think is bullshit

New water should be NO3= 0 right?

boiled water (cool down) also got NO3

next time don't need to boil, tap water will do

the best way is still the slowest method for the entire cycle to be completed at a steady pace.. no point rushing into getting fishes and corals and seeing them die batch by batch.. tts how u read about systems suddenly crashing..

Boiling water won't get rid of NO2 or NO3. Neither will it get rid of other minerals like silicates. It will only kill germs/bacteria and get rid of chlorine. That's about all it does.

Check your test kit, get a reliable one if need be (Salifert would be a good bet). If tapwater had nitrite levels of 30ppm, all people drinking out of taps in Sg would be long dead.

Always something more important than fish.

What there did was there had clean up the storage tank.

thats why serious hobbiest using RO/DI or DI water....

cuts down all this NO stuff....

one thing u gotta learn about all things beautiful.... there is no shortcut....

everything that is beautiful only is the result of hard work, determination and paitence....

not just reefing....

just cycle the tank... cycle it longer the better..... i am restarting my tank again now.... will be cycling till CNY next yr....

Wow Bro, you have alot of patience to cycle till CNY ;)

better a longer wait and i get a nicer tank...

or be impatient.. and get an unstable tank.....

we have our own personal preferred ways of reefing... and this is mine... :peace:

by the way, my tank is total empty now. when start put LR ( live rock)?

obviously... u have not been doing enuff reading and research in the forums...

take the time... go thru old threads... u will find tons of information.....

juz cycle tank with LRs and sand (if u are not going for BB)...

then after that... add corals first.... if you goign for reef.....

after about 2 weeks at least (my personal opinion) put the fishes in....

just to share with you my plans...

cycling with LRs, without lights.... about 3 months....

will stock tank with SPS... target period... 1year...

at the same time... will also put in different shrimps thru out that year....

subsequently... very slow stocking of fish.....

this is just a guideline.... my personal way of doing it....

One thing which I had notice is many people put LS into the tank when cycling their tank. In my own preference, I will only put in LR. Had notice that we can make use of the cycle period leaving the tank fallow to make sure there is no trace of ICH. Some of us use salt mix, some NSW. We cant guarantee the NSW or the LR we buy from LFS or Farm is ICH free. Not sure if it actually helps but i had a huge bio-ball tower in my system. So far parameters are quite stable. Also add SERA bio-starter, seachem reef complete/reef builder when I started up.

Hope this helps...

if that the case, i think the book from japanese give me wrong info. (saw at kinokuniya but didn't buy it)

it said best times is abt 14 to 20 days. whereby the ammonia is almost or to zero.

whereby nitites is almost to highest

also mention that most beginners or expert been follow puting LR at the start stage and is wrong.

out of topic:

search internet and book, 6 packs best to do is crunches rather then sit up

where by lastest one from SG men health oct 05 pages 106

crunches was way to small to build much muscle. sit-ups is the choice....

by the way, u are right. Tap water is ZERO for NO2

Take sample Jurong west st42 NO2 = 0 ,

Take Sample Jurong west St63 (my house) NO2= 2,0mg/l (highest of the chart)

then 0.5 mg/l (2 days ago) , tonight 0,1 mg/L

hmmm. something happen to my tap water that night.

going to be ok... no wonder my new saltwater all NO2 and NO3 very high.

should take water from my parents house.....
