If you haven't known...

When the British were in Singapore, they were being paid weekly

& they argued that Singaporeans were actually being cheated into

believing that the 13th month pay is a bonus.

Singaporeans are being paid monthly which is equivalent to 4 weeks

pay coz there are 4 weeks in a month. As the British were paid weekly,

it worked out to the same.

You see, there are 7 days in a week. 4 weeks in a month.

12 months in a year. Then 12 months should work out to 48 weeks

only.

But 1 year worked out to 52 weeks. Hence the 13th month pay (bonus).

So, the British argued that there is no bonus at all??? Now you

know why there is an Additional Wage Supplement (AWS) or 13th

month bonus.

In fact, there's no bonus at all and the AWS is our

rightful entitlement.

Yet MOM have edited the rule from compulsory into "up-to-the-company" wish liao ..

else u can ask employee abt it before signing.

Most MNC Companies do give 13th Mth pay,

where local firms are rather 'petty' about paying employees their 'rightful entitlement'

You might be wrong. 13th salary is taken off by Gov is to encourage more foreign investor. Most MNC have scape this 13th mth. For sure I dun have for a long time liao

It is true that a year have 52 weeks. Most of us always take for granted that one month = 4 weeks, but it fact if you take notice, there are months with more than 4 weeks. A simple way will be taking 365.25 days and divide it by 7 days (1 week). You will get the answer.
