Turning brown

First time setting up marine tank, being cycling my tank for 3 weeks with LR & LS. Observe that my LR & LS are turning brown. What is that? is it algae? Is that normal?

You've mentioned you had both Liverocks (LR) & Livestock (LS). However, I don't see any LS in your tank.

LS = Fishes, corals etc..

The brown things you see on your sandbed is algae.

yes i use tap water to top up cos water evaporated and there is no livestock yet. anything wrong?

You need to use anti-chlorine in the tapwater when you're topping up your tank.

Or at least let the tapwater sit over night, if you don't have anti-chlorine.

bro you can start running rowaphos before it get out of control.

Diatoms build a sillicate shell and you can only remove them once you eliminate sillicates in your water

Tap water contains a lot of unwanted ions (abt 60ppm) which the recommended amount for our reefs are at most 2ppm

Therefore, you can help this situation by investing in a DI or RO/DI unit and running rowaphos
