So you are saying the colouration return after you place it under 250 mh?What did yo place quite low?the frag or the lights?how deep is your tank?thanks. :thanks:

my ricordia (florida) is doing well under 150W mh. May try later to shift to 400W and see if it gets better. Most of my mushie are very big under 150W. My purple is about 6cm in diameter. Florida also about 50 cent coin. More light better.

I think (marine) therefore I am

I think over exposure for the florida might not be good...bu tthey do tolerate intensity of light more than other mushroom corals like discosoma....

a comparison of the rics in my tank, when I shifted them higher..nearer to my 10000K 150W MH, they seem to stretch out more, but looses that tight bubbly look...

is it good when they stretch?.. any idea what's the purpose of them stretching?

:blink::unsure:

Itis not good , as it is a clear sign that it needs more light source.

Ricodeas do well under MH and infact they would achieve a much better colour tone..

But like all corals be sure and carefully adjust your ricodea to the different intensity ...

Who has kept ricordeas under 250w and above MH?Just collecting information to assure myself.im afraid that the ricordeas might lose their colors under intense lighting. :thanks:

If you are using MH, try not to place them to close to the surface.

Mid levels should be quite ok.

If placing at mid levels , the ricordea lose its tight and rounded appearance....

shift them lower. ;)

This article from reefkeeping online mag on Ricordeas did mentioned this

Ricordea florida are generally found in shallow water, although richer colored specimens may be from more shaded areas. In high-energy shallow environments, Ricordea tend to form larger colonies of rather dull colored polyps, while in deeper, shaded, or protected areas they tend to occur in smaller aggregations and have the beautiful bright colors.

I've just started a 2ft shroom tank and still under cycling and will try to lit it only with those light from Azoo which mimic lights intensity at a depth of 6-8m(i think) and see how is the out come and will risk one of my florida ric from ML and see how the color turns out.

In my current tank i do notice those place higher up is loosing it's color abit :nuke:

i read that ricordeas don't do too well under lighting that's too intense. well, correct me if i'm wrong.

What i feel would be our lights would never be able to come close to what the sun produce .. Thus if u slowly increase the height of the mushroom from the MH over time i am sure they would do well :) I guess this rules applies to all coral ..

that was how high I put my rics, less than 5cm away from the sandbed and the whole cap spreads out so far - bigger than 50 cent coin...I think we still have a lot to learn...(checked with Henry...he is still studying the behaviour of these lovely mushroom as well.....) :D

totally agree wif woon ming... if u understand how much light the sun can produce compared to ours... i think ours really a minute fraction of what the sun offers... doubt there can be too much light for most corals...the thing is to let them slowly get used to the increase in lighting...slowly bring them up to the surface..
