:yeah: cool! a really big one too. I'd like to highlight the importance of not having any bends in the hose, otherwise there'll be build up of detritus there or calcium that could cause blockages.

Hi bro! Remembered you mention some LFS selling these DIY units. Can refresh my memory where?

I'm not too sure of the shop name but it was told to me by a friend of the owner. They have shifted to the new place in pasir ris. Lets say you are going down the road, Ericsson Pet Farm is in front of you .Instead of turning right to all the other fish farms. make a left turn then go through the gate with the new buildings. on your left will be a big fish shop.

Go all the way to the end and the shop is there.selling marine fish.will be on your right.

Will get the name and the address if i'm there again and let you know.

Hi!

can you guys enlight me on this equipment.

i understand that its purpose is to elimintae NO3 by promoting non-aerobic bacteria (correct me if i'm worng  ) the coil of tube supposes to eliminate the oxygen from the water by let aerobic bacteria consuming it. but i don't understan why just the coil of tubes, without any media for the bacteria to live in, can eliminate the oxygen from the water.

i come across this equipment for somes times in the website but no one explain its concept.

Thanks

bro, i think the surface area inside the hose is enough for the bacteria to live in. considering it's a very long hose and the water flow isn't very fast giving it enough contact time. at least that's how it was explained in a website i read a while back

OMG!!!:bow::bow: have to be the biggest coil den. i've seen

by coiling the tubes the water have to travel a longer dist. being exposed to more surface area which the bacterial thrives

60-80m of air tube N how are u suppose to insert any media into the airtube ???

the japanese mat also allows the bacteria to grow on

the den. flow rate is most prob 1 drip per sec once it has "stabilise"

by testin for no3 frm the output of the den. shd be 0 ppm

i just wonder what sort of pump he'd use on that :erm: i think you wont need much control because by the time the water reaches the end the flow rate would be really slow by then. I guess you'll a good strong pump to push the water to the top of that tower, through a narrow 60m long hose. So i guess there is a balancing act between having a long contact time and the need for strong pump.

i don;t know bro  i tried it before, i used to control the flow of the pump to get that 1 drop per second drip rate, but after a while, the drip rate starts to get very little, so must release the flow a bit, until after 6 months, then I noticed that my sicce micra is already in full throttle but still get 1 drop per second. just nice.

So I assume that there is a backflow involved.

Hmmm..think I'm a little slow in capturing the exact workings of it. Does water contact the japanese mat first before entering the tubing or is it the other way round? I suppose it should contact the japanese mat first to trap debri? Or is the japanese mat used as a media to house the anaerobic bacteria after oxygen is depleted through the tubing?

Always something more important than fish.

i think it goes through the hose first then the output will travel up through the jan mat which would hopefully house the anaerobic bacteria.
