Hi there everyone,

I have just teared down my present tank in preparation for my new tank, so managed to catch some of my live mysids. as there were quite a few reefers requesting for live mysids in the past, i am going to put one package of ten mysids up for sale. pls kindly pm me your bids- the highest offer secures.

Preferably, i would like to pass them on to someone who is either planning to seed their system with mysids, or who is planning to culture them. a brood stock of ten individuals is more than sufficient to start off a culture, though you will need to figure out how to separate the females from the males once they show live young on their undersides, or separate the young from the adults after each youngling's release. I find that an appropriately sized net will allow the young to swin past whilst retaining the adults. This will prevent cannibalism of the young by the adults.

alternatively, you can just place them in a small matured system with lots of live rock and allow them to proliferate, with some feedings of phyto for the young, and diatoms or cyclopeeze for the adults, and then remove the rocks and shake them in a separate tub when you want to harvest- those that hid under the rocks will fall off into the tub.

well, if anyone has any queries, etc, feel free to pm me. by the way, if youd like to view a video of the live mysids in my refugium, enter

There are two videos in that briefcase, one of which is of the live mysids. sorry no pics but they are too small to capture with any details with a camera.

Alternatively, you can view this video in my tank thread.

cheers everyone!

hi everyone, does anyone have an opinion as to what is a reasonable price to charge for live mysids?? pls do suggest. as i'm not sure what price to quote. I'm receiving bids of like $3-$5 which i somehow feel is too low as no lfs brings in live mysids, nor is there any other sale source as far as i know. if anyone has any ideas, pls share ya.

if the opinion is that $3 to $5 is alright, then i think i'll pass them on to someone who is culturing them and can promise to return me some upon next harvest, or just keep all of them for my new tank.

thanks all,

ian

Maybe you can provide an indication how much you acquire these mysis shrimps in the first place and from there on people can judge for themselves the worth and can bid from there?

hi melvyn, the issue isnt the cost. if someone is going to culture them, i dont mind passing them on free, as that may prove a likely future source from which i can re-buy some mysids. but as i'm still waiting for my tank to be finished, and for the plumbings and all, i'm afraid that my holding tank's population of mysids will dwindle, and if someone's buying some mysids to seed their tank, i seriously doubt id be able to buy back some live mysids in the future (should i lose those i have) to re-stock my tank, for $10.

anyhows,

cheers,

ian

in the meantime, thanks to everyone who pm-ed me, even though the sales not going ahead. i

cheers,

Hi Ian,

Sorry if I have disrupted your sale thread. I've never came across someone which is selling mysis shrimps for culture at 10pcs/a few bucks :pinch: . I only came across a few thread from the past few years where some reefers r looking for live mysis to feed their LS eg. mini frogfish.

Live mysis shrimps are pretty common in a reef tank. If judging by the way u r selling.... I'll willing to offer fellow reefers by using a 6 X 4 inches net to scoop at my sump. 1 scoop is for a dollar..... and I can assure u that from that 1 scoop, u will have more than 10 mysis caught in the net.

My personal opinion... ;)

Bro, serious or not?

You have mysid shrimp in your sump? Live ones?

I think it is best for Ian to look for people wh are able to cultivate it. Live mysid is rare to find. I think only those research center cultivating seahorse will have them.
