(400x200x250)mm Seahorse Tank

Hi:

Just started a 18l tank, age of 1 week with one seahorse. The tank have being cycle for one month.

I did a DIY over flow filter with one 190l/hr PH. One Skimmer and 60mm DSB.

Feed once every two day with baby brine shrimp. ten % water change every week.

Please advice:

1) is my feeding enought - need other foods?

2) Light?

3) other important thing to look into.

Please see some attached pic of the tank, really need some good advice.

Adult seahorses would pretty much leave baby brine shrimp alone. Adult brine shrimp are deficient in nutrients too. Try frozen mysis enriched with Selcon.

now to answer your questions:

1. your SH is a H.comes (tiger tail). It looks like a female from your pics.

2. adult SH won't eat BBS as Fuel said. Feed her with frozen mysis enriched with Selcon, and occasionally give her a treat with live mysis (from WaterCircle) or small freshwater glass shrimp.

3. your tank height (25cm) is a bit short. Usual guideline is 2-3 times the SH height. But the SH shd still be fine although breeding rituals may be obstructed due to tank height.

4. your tank space quite small, so I guess 1 pair of SH will be enough.

5. even normal fishes are not ecouraged to house with SH (with a few exceptions like mandarin), not to mention small lionfish.

6. lighting shd be normal or low, not too bright.

7. water current shd be low.

I think you are right bro. that is where they kept the baby. My is a F, belly so flat. 35 - 23 - 32

Yep...yours is a female alright. Males have a more pronounced pouch. Anyway, All shops might not exactly at the opening hours..maybe a few minutes late? Just go around lim kopi then go back see later lor.

Big Big problem;

Try feeding mysis today = not eating? I even try to move the dead mysis shirmp infront of her made it ###### still no action ? very worry it die and end up in my mother herbal soup.

Will try glass shrimp tomorrow, not giving up so fast. REAL: you are right, anyone can just fall in love with them easily.

It is not easy to get her to feed frozen food so soon, especially she is alone. If there are other seahorses already feeding frozen, then she probably will follow. Try live mysis if you can get it, otherwise try small size glass shrimp.

Don't feel sad, we have all failed many times, and sometimes still failing. Some wild caught SH simply don't eat frozen food no matter what you do.

The tanks was cycle for one month, as my early post : the LR is use to kick start the cycle.

Anyone can advice me? If the SH is not feeding at all, how long can she keep alive? My is still ok till now, but don't see her eating?
