and because I was told that standard wires only runs max 13A and there are 15A wires available ..........

Strictly a guess on my side, I think, wires are rated on "average" current. The initial current surge during startup should not influence the wire you choose. You should be more worried about it tripping the circuit breakers.

Anyway, it does not make sense to me if you use 15A wire from socket to tank when the socket is rated 13A only.

ya manz, pacificbetta is right. Get the correct rated wire, not those cheap thin wire and you will be safe. If the load is more than the wire can take it, your breaker already shut off by then.

Unless your breaker is a 30amp while your wire is rated for 15amp. A lot of home fire is caused by this setup from the air-con guy. Once the aircon compressor short-circuit or break down, the surge of 30amp rushes thru the 15amp wire, causing an instant fire along the wire.. its very dangerous.

HDB block build after 1994 have circuit break up to 30amp ... so watch carefully which breaker your tank is connected to.
