bro, i don;t think there isn't much that gravity could help you in that design cause it is very shallow. I think the idea was to let the water free fall in the down pipe causing enough force to suck the water from the other end. why don;t you raise the seahorse tank to another cabinet or stand?

1. Via-Aqua MultiSkimmer - $25.00

2. DIY Kalk Reactor - $25.00

3. Atman Protein Skimmer - $25.00

is it? I thought from your diagram above, it's next to your main tank. unless you're saying you don;t want to be block the side view.

anyway, other freshwater forums normally selling these type of stands lah. okey maybe not stainless :paiseh:

hi there Lorensia,

have you considered getting a cheap overhang filter or skimmer like those jebo ones?. the piping and impellors will take care of the suction needed to create the overflow. at the same time, allowing you to then drill a hole in the bottom of the overhang filter to connect to your sump.

as for the overflow through which the water first enters the filter, you can easily make one by supergluing some acrylic pieces together into a sort of i-box at a corner of your tank, or get a short length of large pvc pipe, use a saw to saw some teeth into one side of the pipe, close the other end with a pipe end, then attach this to the overhang filter's intake pipe. i'm not sure if youd get what i mean, but you can check out the prizm deluxe's overflow design for an idea. the overflow attachment to the prizm can be DIY-ed or bought, and you can adapt this for other cheaper overhang filters.

if you have the necessary parts, im willing to help you put it together ya.

cheers,

ian

There are 2 reasons why the water flowing into the sump is slow.

First, your siphon pipe is too short, meaning the upside down U shape pipe is too short. This would cause a very small amount of gravitional force to push the water into the pipe.

Secondly, your seahorse tank is too low and not much gravitional force can make the water flow into the sump.
