Just want to see the number of successful anemone keepers. LFS told me 1 year is already very good. The last time I kept was 6 months...

Equipment:

30G Corner Tank with 10G Sump, 2 x 24W artinic T5, 1 x 24W 10K, 1x 24W 20K, 3" Grade 0 sand & Live rocks, Activated Carbon, Bio-home, 2 x Seio M620, Hailea 1/2HP Chiller, Redsea Pro Skimmer

Live Stock:

Turbo Snail x 1, Green Mandarin Dragonet X 2, Blue Tang X 2, True percular x 2, 1 x Algae Bleenie, Clarke clown x 2

Reef:

go to RC under Anemones and clowns for statistic information.

I went to RC, successful keepers of more than 3 year is more than 60%. Look at SRC, 100 percent at the moment fail in less than 6 months.

Sad right...

For me, I only killed 1 anemone and know I'm not ready for it and that was 4 years back... At that time I had a 1 ft nano. Die at 6 mth olds

Yup totally agree with you.

Had this Hawaii Mann Anemone abt 4 years back.Did not bother to find out more about this guy before buying it.

Only lasted about a week!

Search through internet & found out that it only can survive 2 weeks in the hands of an expert that is still stduying it.

Better to leave them in the wild ocean rather than killing them slowly in our tank which is unfit to them.

How anemones are shipped and how they are treated upon arrival greatly affects their survival. Most probably overseas retailers have better experience at acclimatizing anemones if you ask me. See how often anemones..even different species are dumped together in the same system in various LFS in Sg and you'll get what I mean.

Always something more important than fish.

Keep the proven type of anemone like RBTA which are quite easy to keep. Just give them a lot of light (and I mean a lot), good water condition and temperature, they will survive happily.

If I using 4 tube T5 in my 30G tank, will the RBTA survive?

What the the price for RBTA? The green I think is 15SGD.

If I using 4 tube T5 in my 30G tank, will the RBTA survive?

What the the price for RBTA? The green I think is 15SGD.

I hv 3 rbta , 1 gbta , 1 purple lta & 2 tube anemones under 8 tubes of T5s .. one of the rbta is in the tank for over 2 yrs already. All the rbta still hv the red colors, no bleaching as they stay within 1 ft frm the water surface.. the tubes & purple are on sand & still same color. All the anemones are growing and crowding out my lps. Soon will hv to gv or sell away my corals to convert to a total anemone tank hahaha. So i think t5 shd be ok. Btw may be trying the new LED light set soon to replace my ati power module. Hope the new product can replace the t5s effectively.

I've had my purple tip sabae for more than 4 months now. It's now in it's healthy reddish brown hue. It is about 5 inches in diameter when fully extended.

It was totally bleached when I first bought it. It looked irresistable with the white purple contrast and little did I know that this meant it was a bad specimen until I did a fair bit of research on the Net.

I followed some advice and fed it raw shrimp and silver sides every other day at first and then now down to 1 to 2 times a week. The zooxanthellae gradually returned after the 3rd week of feeding. It required lots of TLC and I have to make sure it had gobbled up the food with its mouth fully shut or else my banded coral shrimp will yank the food right out of its mouth.

It first attached itself to a live rock but had now settled unto the tank glass bottom.

I got a saddleback clown and it hosted with the sabae and are now best buddies. The clown has a soft bed to sleep on every night and the sabae get free cleaning and security services. I believe the presence of the clown had increased the sabae's recovery rate tremendiously. However, a load of research into clown and anemone compatibility needs to be done to increase the chance of successful hosting. I also had an ocellaris clown that would not even get close to the sabae.

Info on the net indicates that anemones live for a VERY long time (as in up to a century) so the reefer need to be really sure that it's something that he/she wants in the tank.
