To perform Hyposalinity... You must make sure you have no corals in your tank...

And reduce the Salinity of the tank bit by bit...

Can replace 5% of the saltwter with freshwater, every few days... Untill it reaches 1.018-1.020... Must slowly reduce the salinity..

After you feel that the ich is gone, increase the salinity bit by bit...

HTH...

Be sure to check on the ph as reducing salinity will definitely cause it to flatuate. Add ph buffer to maintain (8.1 to 8.3). You can read up the pinned topic by bro. weileong for more details on performing hyposalinity. It's a very good write up.

Good luck

To be effective in killing the parasites, the SG need to be 1.008 to 1.010.

1.018 to 1.020 is way too high and will not have any effects.

You start off by doing water change with freshwater (kH buffered to 10dkh).

Do 20% water change 2 time a day (12 hrs apart) until you reach 1.008

Highly recommended to use a calibrated refractometer for accurately monitoring the SG.

If you perform the hypo in a QT then 2 weeks (3 weeks to be safe) will ensure no more parasites on the fish body and during this time you can transfer the fish to another tank and raise the SG back to normal from there. Please take note that during this time the original QT will still have ich parasites.

If you cannot afford another QT to do the transfer then you need to wait out 8 weeks for the parasites to complete min 2 full life cycles.

ok weilong.

first thing first 20% water changed twice a day until sg reach 1.008.

use recommended refractometer to monitor the SG. 2 or 3 weeks in QT to ensure no parasites on the fish body n transfer to another tank n raise SG back to normal. feeding food soak with garlic juice.

if i wanna hypo my display tank, is it the same way or different?

If you hypo main tank then before you start the process need to remove all corals and inverts.

Remember at low SG skimmer don't work well so try to reduce feedings.

For main tank need to hypo for a duration of 8 weeks.

Not only you need to check the SG, you need to check the pH too in order to prevent pH crash at low SG. However if you keep the kh at ard 10 then you can prevent pH crash.

im scared 2 perform hypo... scared it wont work...

but really wana kill all the parasites

Hypo is the most proven/successuful method, it wouldn't work bcos you have yet to try. Really not that scary.

i heard this is more for QT rite? difficult 2 do it in my main tank.

I believe it will be very a hassle for you to hypo perform in main tank.

Hypo kills more than just parasites:

1. Invertibrates - shrimps, anemone, craps, worms etc.

2. Corals

Since you have so much stuff in the main tank, think again... to do hypo in main tank...

Hey Terryz, sometimes people makes mistakes as they got the wrong info from elsewhere and maybe that's the reason why some reefers feel that hypo treatment doesn't work as they applied it wrongly.

hi,

how do you buffer the Kh ard 10.... and after fish is treated, when we transfer them back to main tank,,,, will there be ich in the QT??? <_<
