Might help but if you imagine the bubbles travelling up so high plus the distace covered by the swirling, won't they become huge at the top?

That isn't what we want right?

Isn't that the way skimmers supposed to work? slowly merge and form into larger bubbles at the neck and then burst and push the proteins up and out into the collection cup?

Hmm....I always had an impression that skimmers work better with smaller bubbles at the top rather than big bubbles. Maybe it's time I update myself

And are you going to use RO/DI?

You talking to me?

If the bubbles don't merge to form bigger bubbles and eventually burst then how is it going to extract out of the proteins?

Been using RO/DI for almost 1.5yrs :P

Wow, impressive setup.

Tank room also?

With so many people advise. Hope you can have the best of everything.

Be patience my friend. Gather all advises 1st before you start. The OR pump not very good in my opinion. If you got RD.. It would be better. B)

Heard that someone locally is getting RD agent soon. Previously the local support really sucks. Not only this product, other product you better think twice. You might want to wait. This is just my own opinion.

oh well.. there goes the famous "prata" again lol....

Few simple rules.

1. Minimise/prevent micro bubbles formation coming down from overflow. (Yes it can be done).

2. Properly design baffles system in the sump. Actual design depends on actual flow thru, location of source of micro bubbles/skimmer return pipe, main overflow pipe, location of return pump.

You need to give more details on the actual layout of your stuffs, eg return pipe, skimmer, etc etc then maybe post in this thread and we can all discuss and help you. Sometimes even the tank maker might miss out some details.... once design is wrong then have to redo again which is very PITA. Micro bubbles problem will haunt you for many sleepless nights :P

Okie... will try to get a drawing of the sump... :)

I also believe micro-bubbles can be a real headache... :(

Anyway, owe you 2 pratas liao... 1st one was "otang" from Harlequin... I still remember hor! :)

Lol.... I forgot about the Harlequin one. In case pple think i very cheapo keep free prata here free kopi there, all these meant as joke one hor. But then meet outside for prata and kopi and no problem one lar... wu lai wu ke (got come got go) one then everything also easy.

Yeap if you got design to show even better so everyone chip in idea to help you.

I could never control my beckett as much as I wanted and everytime I shut down the pumps and restarted it, I had to re-tune. Wat to do, Im not very good with tuning the beckett so it could never perform as well as the others that were running becketts. Nuthing wrong with the skimmer itself but more a case of User-error! hehehe

With the current skimmer I have, its set and forget and it will keep its setting no matter how many times I start/stop the needlewheels or feed pump. Very easy even for a fool like me to master. :)

RAV-65, considering the cost of the beckett and the 2 x md100 and the humongoes electrical draw and not mentioning the way noisy pressure-rated pumps.... Have u explore the possibility of using needlewheels instead?

Although I'm a supporter for beckett skimmers, needlewheels are NOT out of the questions... in fact, I though in the future, might wanna run one needlewheel and one beckett... :P

No tank room lah...

Anyway, this is the exact purpose of this thread... to plan and discuss along the way... :)

I'm glad so far we got some good intelligent info and AR even posted a useful thread...

Hopefully the final tank set up would be as problem free as possible coz I feel it's almost impossible to have a 100% problem free tank... or at least, my experience level still not there yet to set up such a tank... :P

As for the pumps... would definitely consider the Ang Leng if there was a proper local agent... but currently really no support leh... :(

Just one more thing to add, it may be illegal to put a drain pipe under the floor slab. Unless in a landed property. You will get sue for that if the water drip to the lower floor. :(

Opps! guess I'll use the money for constructing the drain pipe for 2 mops and a few pails...

Rav, do you have a detailed plan for your tank/sump layout/piping etc etc? I would be very happy to see it if u dunt mind. :)

Will have to get it from the tank-maker... will post it as soon as I have it... :)

But if you see any mistakes, point out to me hor... :P

Toying with the idea of havinng the OR6500s at mid tank level instead of having them at sump tank level to reduce head-loss... It also means that maybe I have to feed the pumps when there's a power failure....

Also might use a check valve to prevent the water from flowing down too fast... so may not need to feed the pump when power is turned off during water change...

Wat do u guys tink, would it work?? :P

elevating the pump could cause restriction in the inlet and that will shorten the lifespan of the pump.

Agree with Weileong on that. Always have gravity feed to your external pumps (ie.water level should be above inlet) and not have them over-work by having to suck water thru the inlet.

BTW, finally the plans are out! Swee man!

How are you mounting the lights? Any rail or way of moving the lights out of the way while you need to work on the tank from above?

Cheers! :D

bro.

seriously plan your sump well. and with high turnover, u gonna have a skimmer in the intake chamber of your sump if u know what i mean! haha.

i've got 4 4" baffles and i still cannot kill the bubbles!

i'm also guilty of not minimising bubbles form the dursos. everyday i see microbubbles until i'm actually quite used to them! haha. as long as there's colour, who cares abt the bubbles. but if i had a chance to redo, i'll tweak the sump design.

eagerly waiting more pics from ya.

Hmm... the bubbles seem to be a huge problem.... but den again, even if you try and try a good design, u never know the result until u actually start the sump running... by then the little bubbles may cause hair-loss and sleepless nights... :(

Anyone for any good ideas to share?? :)
