Orangeband Surgeonfish?

Hi,

I am thinking of keeping a Orangeband (Orangeshoulder) surgeonfish

(Acanthurus olivaceus). Any reefers had experience with this

surgeonfish? Read that it is 1 of the least aggressive of the surgeonfish,

and rarely bother corals .. right? I am having LPS and soft corals (mushie,

rics and yuma)

Yes it is a very gentle fish and only when disturbed by other fishes will it start to get aggresive to defend itself. A good algae eater and a highly resistant fish to diseases.

with regards to corals, esp lps and soft corals

I have a juv and it stays away from all the corals. Eats very well on pellets or frozen brine/mysis. Pls take note on how big it will grow when adult. Cheers

i had a 4footer with lotsa swimming space ... and i intend to

keep (in terms of big fish) 1 orangeshoulder and 1-2 YT ...

so the orangeshoulder isnt a "wuloo" fish ... thot all surgeon/tang

luver goes for the more popular wan ...

I recently got myself a orangeshoulder tang, and i must say it's a beauty..

Hardy fish too.. Most importantly.. Eating like pig..

Wanted one too. But hardly see the adult morph ard leh... Any one can advise on where its sighted?

They have but only yellow juv specimens.

No adults ones leh.

Acanthurus olivaceus (Bloch & Schneider 1801), the Orange Spot or Orange

Shoulder Tang; a hardy fish out of Hawaii and elsewhere, but unfortunately, a

behavioral terror in the ranks of A. lineatus. This is an active fish that grows to

more than a foot and a half in length. It should only be placed with other "mean"

tankmates in the confines of a huge aquarium.

hmmm not really

sometimes it juz depends on the fish n some luck

i got mine frm a fellow reefer

he was keepin some lps in the tank

tankmates include blue tang , purple tang yellow tang , clowns, unicorn tang cant rem liao

no prob according to him.

besides the clown ... but then clown can be damn big too

Yes alot of ppl kept them without reading up.. Upon getting big, they also tend to develop the territorial and aggressibe behavior

May or may not be as mean as the 2 you mention but the size it gets to, only a >6feet tank can do...
