Use of WeiPro skimmer

Recommended Posts

Hey, can anyone with some exp pls guide me on the use of WeiPro skimmer?

I can't seem to skim out anything except some light yellowish water in my collection...

My tank is abt 20 days old with 2 Tangs, 1 clown, 1 cardinal and 2 hermits...

3ft by 2 by 2.5...

Currently using a WeiPro 2011 skimmer with a Dymax 1200l/h pump... The bubbles created doesn't reach the tip of the collection cup.... There is also no skimmate produce except some water which is slightly yellowish... Can anyone advice me on how to adjust?

Is it cos the pump not strong enuf?

bro...wad do u mean by tip of the collection cup?? on top or the intersection of the columm between the collection cup? :D ..if it is tune to the max n still do not reach the intersection...meanning that ur pump is too weak to power the weipro SA2011..

my 2 cents worth.. :D

I also have the same probelm. Using weipro 2013 with 1800L/h pump. Close the valve half and the water level is in the neck of the collection cup. Still not getting any "good" skimmate somemore the bubble seem like cannot combine to become bigger bubble... all pop when reach the water level.

a 1800l/h to power a SA2013 is defintely nt enuff....gt ppl use 400l/hr for a SA2012 liaos.. :P

i'm using weipro 2013 with RIO10 (2700l/hr) producing small bubbles too. But does not seem to be able to get big bubbles too.

water pressure thru' the pump has alot to do with the l/m of the pump(height of the pump, is it under/above the water level?)... if your water level changes, it can affect the output pressure too.

I'm using a 1200 l/h, valve is set to achieve wet skimmate. The thing is,... for you to get dry skimmate, you'll need several passes of the water thru' the skimmer before it shows... it will certainly help if you have a bigger, more powerful pump.

Ask yourself what sort of skimmate you want first.

Does it matter where we put the skimmer? If we put it as the first stage of the filter system, (like before the mechinical filter) will we get more skimmate? Since there is more dirt?

yes it does, some prefer to connect the skimmer at the first section, at the first pass. You can collect lots of gunk there, esp when set to wet, you can see lots of POM being collected in the cup together with the skimmate.

so it is better to put skimmer at first stage so that the dirt will be removed even before it has chance to break down to NO2?

maybe this is why i get high NO3 and no skimmate?

My current set up is : wool ->bioball->wool->cermic ring->coral chip->skimmer->return pump.

Should i change? Any recommandation?

using an atman 2000l/h pump for weipro 2012. Just turned it on last night and its just bubling there, no skimate. Hmm will wait another few days to see if ther's anything. If not, i'll be spammin this forum heheh

the skimmer takes from my sump's first compartment (after wool) and returns to my sump's mid portion the refugium.

I mean on top... higher than the intersection... I visited one lfs which uses WeiPro 2011 also... But his is 2000l/min + pump... the bubbles are power...

Think mine is PH not power enuf lah... And my setting shld be wet...

Anyone can comment the difference between wet or dry skimmate? as in their pros and cons?

just an update, there IS skimate already. so... yay =)

i'm a newbie, really green but i think i read somehwere that when u introduce LR into a new tank, be it 2nd hand or not, bacteria will die and new and hardier ones will start to grow. This will still produce ammonia and the water cycle will start. wonder how ur fishies are doing now

here, forth post from the bottom.

In wet, you'll lose lots of water. I've read a post that in Bomber's, he loses abt 1 drop/sec, for a big tank thats no problem, but for a small one you'll be replacing sea-water quite often. Thats a real PITA esp when your water condition is tip-top... you'll have to careful when auto-replacing the lost wet-skimmate.... kalk-reactor->auto-water topup, will be disastrous.

Again, the height of lost water will reduce the overall pressure of the skimmer pump(depending on how you configure it), which will reduce wet skimming performance.

Thanks for the pc of info...

Think beta for me to change my pump and my skimmer soon... No wonder I top up abt 1.5l of freshwater everyday for a 3footer...

hey sorry to dig up this old thread... what is a wet skimate? My skimmer is just bubbling and i only see abit of yellowish water collected in the collection cup. Is this normal? running 2012 with atman 104 (1400l/h). btw my main tank runs on under gravel filter and i suck out the detrius in the main tank regularly. is that why i don't see those brown black stuff in the skimmer?

okie dokie. just took the photo

i've just connected the air intake of the skimmer to a air pump. results still the same... now i'm closing the valvue abit more than 1/2 so that the bubbles are 1/2 way in the neck....

think your pump is too weak for the skimmer. always good to use a slightly overrated pump. I see the length from your pump to skimmer seemd too long, try to shorten it as too long the length weakens the pump pressure.

for me i uses a weipro 3000 for my 2012. getting a reasonable watery skimmate of dark green tea color. ;)

agreed!

maybe can source out some second hand pump that some reefers use before.

Also, might consider getting a better skimmer which save your lots of problems on water parameters in future!

Hope these helps!

Cheers,

Wil

Ok do this: remove the 'U' shape tube, remove the green hose that connects to the tube. try fitting the pump directly into the venturi pipe... so you don't lose any pressure.

From this angle, can't see your air-intake pipe. Try fitting an air-valve to control the air going in.

When you tuned it. Stop the air in. And adjust the skimmer 'gate-valve' until the level of water reaches the neck joint. Slowly increase the air in until the skimmer body is all white and opaque from it. Depending on how wet you want your skimmate to be, either tighten the gate-valve or loosen it.
