New fish.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am wondering do all new purchased fishes need to be housed at a quarantine tank before putting them to the display tank.

What are the parameters of the water in the qurantine tank then if that's the case since we are not sure what kind of disease or parasites that the new fishes might bring along.

Does the quarantine tank needs to be medicated (and what type of medicine is needed) or needs to perform hyposalinity whenever we put in new fish and not sick fish (ich infected)......

Ps: So far I have read threads on treating ich problems fish with hyposalinity in Q.tank and display tank with success.

:thanks:

Your QT's water should comes from your main tank. I Quarantine all my fishes. A MUST for me. Do not trust the appearance of your fish, stress causes ich to appear when it comes home.

When doing QT, no need for medication. Just monitor the fish for: 1. ich 2. rubbing of its body against rocks or glass, other parasites. Parasites appears within 1 week normally, I keep my new fishes in QT for 1 month.

If parasites exists then you medicate or hypo. I no longer medicate but only adopt hypo as it is the best solution so far accompany with garlic mixed feeds.

My QT runs a cheapo hand-on filtration.

Hi Nakazoru,

How do I manage the Q.tank if Hypo/medication or both have been performed before as I am introducing new fish again in it. Let's assume the last batch of fishes have been successfully quarantined and have move on to the display tank.

Thanks

Well I shall not deal with medication as I stop using it but it involves adding activated carbon after the final stage of medication Copper, I never use before as I dislike the idea of introducing even slight trace of copper to my main tank. Carbon dun remove copper, so I dun know how to reintroduce a copper treated fishes back to the main tank..

Hypo:- Slowly increase the salinity back to normal over 2 days after confirming fish is free of parasite.

Reintroduce FISHES USING DRIP METHOD.
