in my entire time in this marine i've bought 3 anemones. the first 2 died. now i'm into my 3rd one. the funny thing from the shop, the anemone opens up neatly and looks very nice. but when it comes to my house.. it swells big time. like open up to 3-4 times the size i saw in the shop. is there something wrong with my water?

If its not bleached, its likely not enough light for it, so it expand itself try to get more of the light.

Based on what I read from the net.

Or...

Its not doing so good in the LFS, your tank is so good for it. It so happy and go party.

Both "side" opinions, gauge them based on your own judgement.

What is the temperature of your water? Which type of anemone did you get?

Some anemones like the sebae are nice to look at but hard to keep. Beginners should try hardy anemones like the BTA.

well mine is a 1.5ft deep, 2ft long tank, supported by a sump of equal size. Lighting wise i use a single coralsun50/50 fl tube. water parameters wise, pH is 8.3, dKh 12-13, salinity 1.022, ammonia/ammonium and nitrite undectectable, nitrate is 20. maybe nitrate is the problem. will try to capture a picture and post it the next time. my anemone is the one with the purple tips that anemone crabs live in

Some times the anemone will swell up either its hungry, or theres not enough light thats y its spreeding out to get light.

Anemones are only recommended for expert or dedicated aquarists. They are not quite suited to a small tank with huge water parameter changes and some having pristine water also face problems with anemones.

We need more info as to what type of test kit you use to measure and more specific details of your setup to further help you. Pls do read up on them more to ensure more success. FYI, having them for 2-3 months do not indicate that it is healthy. It is only when ypu have them for about a year and they have started splitting that might be a good indicator.

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the world.

To you, I shall be unique in all the world...

You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

any thing is possible. Not much has been documented about anemones being "successful" as statistical a tiny % of anemones in aquariums live more than 5yrs. Search for Joyce W. for the research.

Moreover, much of the unfortunate espiodes are not share. Many aquarist do not visit forums to discuss the experiences like us may be due to lang problem or accessibility to net.

Purchasing any anemone would require the conscientious hobbyist to know the odds u and the anemone is facing. That is in an enclosed aquarium.

I have a green haddon in my 210 gallon, which has grown in size since acquistion. Now about 20 inches in diameter. BTW they are notorious for eating fish. No they are not hunters but opportunists when it comes to feeding.
