I've decided to keep mushrooms and yumas on my existing 3x1.5x1.5ft tank.

Just need to ask some questions from the experts here. :whistle

First, some specifcations of my current tank

Tank 3x1.5x1.5ft

Sump 24"x12"x14"

Refugium 14"x9"x10"

Lighting 2x39W T5 HO (10000k & Blue Pro) + Dymax 1x30W T5 NO Blue

Skimmer Weipro SA2011 + Atman 104 Pump

Return pump TOM 800

Oceanfree internal power filter (for flowrate in tank)

Water Params

Temp 30'C

No other info available

Fishes

1x yellowtail damsel

1x firegoby

1x Steinitz Goby

1x diadem dottyback

4x chromis

1x cleaner shrimp

Corals

1x yumas

1x unknown coral from LR

Tank running for 4+ months now

I plan to get a fan to cool my water temp to 28'C.

I bought a rock of yumas a few months ago and noticed that some of the yumas have detached itself from the LR. One reefer said it was reproducing, not really sure about that....

Ok, now I want to ask is:

1. is my lighting too high for mushrooms?

2. what are the conditions for keeping them?

3. do mushrooms/yumas require feeding? or just light alone?

4. is my current yuma really reproducing or dying? I've never fed it before.

5. what other points did I miss out? High current flow etc?

:thanks:

it could be due to the high current or the warm temp in ur tank that cause the yumas to fall of the rock... :D

1) The lighting is either sufficient or insufficient depending on the type of mushrooms. But in general if you notice them stretching for light you should place them higher up. You won't go wrong with low light in the beginning but more likely to cause them harm if the lights are too bright to start off with (in your case I don't think they are).

2) No much special conditions. Maintaining iodide levels can be accomplished by water changes. If you choose to dose iodide separately using a commercial product I suggest that you buy a iodide test kit to prevent overdosage.

3) Feeding can be accomplished by reducing your skimming. Leave some nutrients in the water for them to absorb directly. Turning off your skimming for few hrs during the day might be a good idea. Don't off it during the night due to lower pH levels.

4) They fall off due to stress. Leave them in a low flow area in a tupperware with substrate at the bottom and they will attach in no time.

Always something more important than fish.

Thanks Fuel for your advice and information.

I am thinking since my skimmer is 'underpowered', I do not have to turn off the skimmer.

I have also placed one of the detached yuma into my refugium without flow and low lights. I hope it will reattach to the rock there.

One more disturbing encounter is that I just discovered flatworms on my yumas. :(

Should I do a freshwater dip of 1 min?

Yep...think you can leave your skimmer running anyway. Maybe find a fish to eat the flatworms? Heard stories of six-line or canary wrasses doing so..you might want to give them a try..six-lines are aggressive fish though.

Always something more important than fish.
