Like To Know What Other Detrivores Is Available ?

Hi Folks,

I am looking for a solution to clean my tank of detritus. Was thinking of Detrivores but look like there is a limited choice in singapore. Does anybody knows if there is any other alternatives, other than the sea cucumber ? Are there any good substitute like the califonia fighting couch ?

Or vacuuming the detritus is the best solution.

Keen to hear your inputs ?

hey, mine black cukes do take in my size 3 sand..heh....large intestines maybe..heh...seen it once but most of the time, the will just graze on my sand and cleans all the detritus

My tank got 1-2 hermits...very small...free one..went to beach and get..but you must know wat kinds to pick. I avoid the blue and red ones...i go for those small greyish colored ones...body of the crab about 1cm max only. So far it's doing a good job at cleaning the sand n leaving my pipefish and other stuff alone.

I have a black sea cucumber too...really hardworking thing...giving my harlequin shrimp a ride on its back too...kinda cute.

Detritivore can get lobsters...not the lobsters with big claws...i mean those with very long thick antennas. Those you see in chinese restaurants......the pincers are only adapted for scavenging and feeding on detritus...they can't catch any fish at all. I've got a small one in my tank now...body metallic blue..then the tail is fluorescent lime green...very nice!

I saw that blue lobster at Re*B ..very nice impressive color but I didn't get it cause not really sure about its behaviour !

BTW, I have one cuke - tiger tail. This fellow is not really efficient in cleaning - hiding all the time. I know those donkey dunk are great but they don't look very appealing so I am thinking of other alternatives, maybe serpent star. And I am also not sure whether it is safe to have 2 type of cuke, will they fight ? otherwise I will have to clean up the guts they throw out.

Yes the lobster at reborn is the one but I think u shd look for an even smaller sized one than that. Spiny lobster are very strong n hv tendency to knock down all yr liverocks at nite. I dont trust cukes even tho they r very gd detrivores. One mistake and yr tank is finito

U can buy Blue Starfish aka. Linckia Laevigata. they are scavengers and reef-safe. kole tang and chevron tang feed heavily on sediment and detritus too. but very ex.
