Electricity Bill!

I know this topic has been posted a few times.. But I think my electricity bill this month is OUTRAGEOUS!

My house monthly bills range from $300-400. But this month, my mum got a shock when she received the bill! It rose up to $900!!!

My 4ft X 2ft X 2.5ft tank can't possibly cost $500 a month to upkeep!!

This is a list of the equipment I have.

1. Dymax EPH2000 - Chiller pump - as & when chiller kicks in

2. Atman 107 - Return pump - 24hrs

3. Via Aqua 2300 - Skimmer pump - 24hrs

4. Via Aqua 1300 - Wave maker - 24hrs

5. Atman MG D1200 - Lights

6. Resun CL650 - set at 26C.

Specifications of MH Lights:

220-240V

Blue tubes 24w X 4

Halide 150w X 2

Blue tubes: 9am - 6pm

Halide: 6pm - 10pm

Blue tubes: 9.45pm - 11pm

So what on earth is going on?!?!

But I read alot of the previous posts on electricity bills and some of the people have brought up the matter to PUB. However, they usually end up having to pay the bill!

I used the calculator to calculate and it stated that my tank should only cost $80 a month!

Then why the HUGE PUB bill!

carl. . there must have been a mistake. Even i run two tanks only $480 a month.

However, in order to cut ur bill, do change all ur atman/via-aqua pumps to the followings:

1) Aquabee (my first choice)

2) Eheim

3) Red dragon (only for the deeper pockets)

4) Aquamedic

Basically, both eheim and aquabee are affordable. . in long term u save more $$.

Btw i recommend tunze products in comparison to Seio wavemakers.

Eg.

Tunze 6060 model - 6000litres/hr, 15 watt

Seio1500 model, 6000litres/hr, 34 watt

p.s. unless ur tank is 2ft or lps tank, tunze might be overpowered.

Those low powered pumps should not make so great difference in the power comsumption.

Maybe last month they took the real meter reading while the previous 6 months all estimates?

I got no idea... I need to sit down and compare all the past few months' bills now.

Ending up the bill increase from 130 to 160

well, the atman 107 and via aqua have to go. Replace it with Aquabee or Eheim.

By the way, this is how it works.

High wattage pumps generate more heat >> therefore chiller have to kick in more often and work harder >> higher electricity bills!

Alamak.... think my Jaws dropped when I sasw yr elect bill.... Better to call up to check it out. But sometimes estimated bills are apssed down to consumers due to estimation of power consumption By should u be overcharged for it, they will back credit the balance amt to ur electricity acc for the next mnth deduction. So meanwhile think they will still ask u to pay the full amt.

bro, call Pub no use one, my monthly $200- $250, 3 of us in my family, me, my wife and son, 1 6x2x2.5 tank w/o chiller fish only tank and a 4x2x2.5 with 150 watts MH and teco RA680, my bill for sept rose up to $419. I call up PUB and they told me to monitor the meter reading, i told them july to august only me and my son were at home and did not even switch on the aircon, only spent fm 1900h to 0800h at home (my wife doing her confinement at in law place) It was SHOCK $419 for a 4 room flat and only me and my son. No choice they are the king for electric supply. If next month bill still like that no need to go farm liao not even buy a blue damsel. Just imagine this month you pay $900 then next few month you have to pay $700+ to $800+ can die one. Patrol price up, GST 5%, Pub bill up, ERP but no pay raise to suit the ups

Check your electrical meter value and deduct your previous month data indicated in the bill. Based on the total usage (in kwh), can do a simple calculation to check if the bill is correct.

However $900 is simply ridiculous.

i'm running a 4ft tank plus a 2 ft tank. my electrical bill increase by $100 on average after that. :|

submit ur meter readings every month on the 10th over the phone to SP Services enable to prevent over estimations.Hope that helps.
