how can i remove the top layer of dirt and oil?

Hi... anyone can help me by giving me some advise... ?

I realise that sometimes there is layer of dirt and oil on top of the water... can anyone teach me how to remove them ah?

Can try using a surface skimmer. Or use a small air hose to siphon out the top layer.

Some reefers have suggested dabbing tissue paper(the thick kind) onto the water surface.

a top overflow will solve this problem ,if you using canister ,eheim also have a different intake pipe with overflow

direct the flow of water on the surface to the overflow box, or the oil will just accumulate at a corner, even if u have a overflow box.

bro... that mean your outlet had placed not at the optimum position liao... you have to adjust till the water at top to circulate back to the overflow.

These are actually colloidal matter which accumulates at the surface.

That is why it is good to feed skimmers with water directly from the overflow

I had the same problem last time, with a layer of oil or dirt at the surface. Even after the first day of changing the water, the flim appears, might be due to my pellets.

I have added a surface skimmer to my cannister instead of the normal inlet and its very easy to fix and cheap. Now surface oil is history ehehe, maybe u shd invest on it in the long term .......
