DIY sump

Bros,

I'm planning to DIY a sump, but no ideas how to go about it.

Any suggestions from the experts here?

My tank is only 2 ft - 20gallons, so I'm looking at a simple sump.

Current skimmer is the most basic air-driven one.

And using a overhead filter.

Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to DIY one? And the equipment needed, such as wad pump to use, wad bio-media etc.?

If possible can use the skimmer i currently have?

firstly..u must decide on what type of filtration method u wanna use..

and what u plan to get out of your sump?

few things to take into consideration is

-splashing

-space for pumps

-reservoir for water topups

-outlets for your equipments (skimmers,CR,FR etc)

this are a few things to consider before you setup ur sump..

Yes, like bro Jem said, its all in what you want your sump to be.

You can even use those big blue tubs for your sump.

Give us more details and then we can really help you

Sorry for responding to your threads....

I am interested to know how to get the main tank water out to the sump (below the main tank - can use pump) and another pump to water back from sump to main tank?

There is a way to do this with only one pump? can someone draw me the piping layout diagram? I aware of the problem of the overflowing thingy when the pump is not working in case of a blackout.

Cheers. :)

You use a overflow to bring the water to the sump

For that, you add durso pipes to reduce noise

Then, you use a return pump to pump water back to the main system

understand your similar concern with the threadstarter.

here is something you can look at:

How does a sump work - Melev's reef

this info is meant for both you and threadstarter, rus2110.

cdckjn,

Do start your own thread should you have further questions. We need to extend the respect and courtesy to the threadstarter.

hope you understand. :D

Thanks hotlemond for the great website - I actually visited that website but at that time did not understand what that guy was doing.

So to all eager to try this, I can do this at my school's workshop. have facility to bend arcylic, can order acylic from supplier directly to do this. Anyone wants to experiment?:huh:

This will be the last time I hijack this thread.

Sorry. :bow::bow:
