this are bristtleworm. They dun grow from the LR, they are hitch hikers, plus the crabs. Actually the small ones makes good scavengers.

you get more of this when you didn't treat your LR prior to putting them into tank, but honestly you can't eradicate all of them even if you did.

Like the folks had adviced in your previous thread,

http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38379

you need to do some read up. Otherwise, things gets more confusing as you venture deeper into this hobby.

Eeeeeeeer, thats gross. Aiya, that we see every now and then. They are in LR you buy, always there, no matter how you treat LR.

Maybe you should try cooking the LR. Then contribute these worms to Fear Factor. :D

Conclusion: Never mind, they are scavenger, you hardly see them until they die. Normally when the salinity is too low or high.

Only the tough reefer survive.

issit ok if i clear all my salt water and swap it with tap water 1st? to kill worms in e LRs. will it help?? i hav already done it. hope it helps!

The worms won't be killed unless you soak the rock in pure freshhwater for hrs or even probably days. By then, probably everything else in the rock will be dead including the beneficial bacteria that helps break down ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. But if you have already soaked the rock, might as well soak it all the way for a few more days. By then you'll get safe rock with no other hitchhikers like crabs or mantis shrimps. Recommend you scrub the rocks often during the soak and replace with freshwater daily. After a few days of treatment sun the rocks till they dry before putting them in your tank. Don't worry about stuff like coralline algae, etc. These will grow back soon enough if you seed your tank with coralline algae, either on small pieces of rock (ensure no hitchhiker) or after being scrapped off.

Always something more important than fish.

I caught a few worms when i was rescaping..... luckily much smaller in size. but then my right hand got itchy rashes after.... now sure is it due to the worm i killed

framerunner, your avatar is as gross as the worms leh..heehee

just a joke, no offence :peace:

:off:

hi newbie,

the foul smell should be the die off from the uncured live rocks. If currently you are cycling your tank, not to worry, the smell will be gone after a few days.

Dosing of bacterial (eg cycle) will help abit & shorten the cycling time. Do keep your skimmer running. As for me, I leave those bristle worms alone as it will not cause any harm to my fowlr tank, my wrasse will attack on those worms.

just make the conditions unfavourable for them and they will pop out of their holes. either a super saline solution or a freshwater solution will do. I used to pour the salt directly onto the liverocks and see the worms wriggle out in pain...

i do not know of any drops in the market that can seed coralline algae, but i came across drops promoting algae growth. u can try borrowing a piece of coraline algae covered rock and put it in your tank and if your tank parameters permit, coralline algae will flood
