Since we are on this topic about money, just want to share with u guys on something that someone taught me a few years back.

Somehow it leave me a very deep impression. Dont think I can recall everything but I tried my best to explain everything. It is open for discussion though as nothing is flawless.

Somehow as a Singaporean I always wonder what is my purpose in life? To study hard to get into a good Uni and get a good job with a good pay? To get a wife and give birth to 4 babies for the good course of the Government? To wait for retirement so as to collect the pension so that I can go holiday with my wife or carry on working if I dont have enough or my kids decided not to support me?

Are u working for money or is money working for u?

box.jpg

I call this picture the box. Basically it is divided into 4 different square boxes namely, Employed, Self-Employed, Own-Business and Investment.

Employed is somehow the status that most of us are in, meaning you are working for somebody. Eg, the government, private bank, etc..

Self-Employed is that u own a small business of your own, which means that u are the boss but so small that there are only about 1 or 2 person working under u.

Own-Business is when u evolve from Self-Employed to hiring more people to work for u.

Investment is u invest in trust funds, shares, businesses that make u a board of director, etc.

Now we are getting into the interesting part:

The first 2 green box is where u are working for money. U toll day and night to meet dead line, get pissed-off by boss, etc. Basically u are still getting a SALARY

The next 2 blue box is where money is working for u. U hire many workers to work for u and u make the decision on which project to undertake. U make the decision and u are making money to work for u. It can also be investment where u invest in shares when the company grows, dividends are paid to shareholders.

I believed that we should be inspired to be in the Blue sector although it is not always the easy case. If you are in the green sector, the risk is lower but the return is also lower. If you are in the Blue sector the return is higher but the risk is also higher.

So think about it, see where u are now and decided where u want to go. No one is too old to do anything.

Ray Kroc only started Macdonald when he was 52 years old. I will end with a phrase that he said which is quite true

"if you are green means that you are growing, but if you are ripe means that u are beginning to rot. I am always green."

cheers

hi bro zehuan,

this is a good start but unfortunately, your info stopped at the kyosaki's books.

in these books, they gave you solid stories of what not you should be ... but never teach you what you should be ... because he is also non-wiser ....

have fun ...

have i figured it out ... i did.

am i teaching ... no.

that's why i am now begging on the streets with bro MIN in orchard, come and see us sometime ...

but, do remember: if we are talking to some gals, you are not allowed to approach, our ballistic missiles are programmed to shot on sight.

hi bro zehuan,

i love sweeping statements ...

but, just for fun ... i will prove to you that i have figured it out ...

let me try:

although kiyosaki is good, he made a fundamental mistake. he collapsed time and money into one factor ... let's see ...

employed: obviously you have no money. that's why you exchanged your time for money to live.

self-employed: no difference. except you can't be sacked. you are the centre of the universe, i.e., without you, the business dies. hahahahahahahahaha ... feeling important? i felt shitty really ...

owned business: you have become efficient, i.e., you employed others' time so that you can exchange their time for money and you take a cut of that money. but, you still exchange your time for money as you need to mind the business. sometimes you do feel tired and what you did is to take a break, go on expensive holidays and so on. but you have to come back and mind the business. during your absence, some part of the business will go a bit hay-wired. you can classify yourself as a super-duper self-employed. other self-employed is paid $5 per hour, yours is say $1000 per hour, that's it.

investment: this is a little different. in investment, you must have the money. you are putting it back and hope like hell it works for you. take a million bucks, you can get 5% (very good oredi), that's only 50k a year for a million buck putting at some one else's pocket. damn high risk man. anyway, assuming you got it right, you now have time as the money is "working" for you (but it is a tiny percentage of). you can go on holidays and so on without worrying too much.

so are you now wiser? .... definitely not ... kiyosaki did not tell you the answer ...

he merely classified time and money to be mutually exclusive. if you don't have money, use your time to convert to it. if you have the money, convert some back so that you can have time for yourself. most of us don't start off rich, so have to take the path of converting time to money. some get at it faster, some slower. but, there shall be no escape.

hahahahahahahaha ...

are you now out of it all ... NO

the important keyword to all these is (drums roll): you must have BOTH time and money.

with time, you can beg in the streets or ski at blue mountains.

with money, you can chio all gals.

then how?

you must build a business system - a business system is one that you are not part of it. a system that requires no part of you in it. a system that does its own self-righting mechanism, i.e., it catches the crooks and rewards the deligent, so that you can get the money but the business does not take your time.

are you sure we can ever achieve that? ask bro MIN. he has witnessed a little of me ... and named me SOB ... he said bast*rd was not enough to describe his deep sense of hatred for me. i am not only a slave driver, a freakish controller, but also an as*hole to gals.

just to name a few business system in the world: 3M, coke, hang ten. i am not talking about branding only.

good luck to your quest ...

hi bro zehuan,

i understand your predicaments ... :(

if you have read some of my earlier threads, i did not start with zero bucks. i started with minus 3.2m bucks. now, i am still minus 1.8m, but no banks now dare to play me. although i drove a van, i gave my workers big cars free. that's provided you wear skirts ...

i started with not a single cent in the bank account. hence, you just need a good head.

if you have a good business system idea (note the words, it is business system idea and not just business idea)

as i have said before, i am not teaching ...

good luck to you ...

sorry,

hi zehuan,

just revived an old thread here ...

nice meeting you at LFS today.

after you have finished the books, the question to ask is: "what's wrong with what they told you and not what's so good about what they have written .... and why?"

lizard

ps: JE, please don't believe any words MIN told you, they are worse than poison. you see: poeple like to hear doom stories and they don't like to hear success stories of fellow singaporeans, i wonder why ...

i am leaving earth for middle-earth ... that's where all my sweethearts are. some are already sweethearts, many are not. so, i really have to spend my time in middle earth wisely ... sigh ... great trouble stirring again in mordor of late ... the evil orc prince charming is getting on my nerve again. have to kill him once and for all. such hard work ... you are right ... i got to get down to work ... never work so hard in my life ... damn that orc prince ... such deformity ... yucks
